Question re giving points

If I give a gold member 5k and book cash plus points and she pays the cash component
does she get the status and night stay credit?
have come across this a few times and hotels always refuse to put the gold members number in even though they pay the cash component.
what is actually the rule here?

Well if you transfer 5k points to her account, the points will be hers. Then she can just book a room.

This may work, but since you can only transfer to people at the same physical address, this is a very limited answer.

OP, of you are actually trying to book the room for the other member, do it over the phone. Tell them who you are booking for and they should be able to set it up correctly under the other person's name and membership number. And in the event that the credit posts to your account by mistake, you should be able to call and fix it, since the program's rules state that the person whose name is on the reservation and who pays should get the credit.

firstly I didnt have time to transfer as the room only became avail 2 days ago
second not same address
3 booked in their name over the phone they added me so i though would be good to go hotel refused to credit her account.

also what is the story when paying for a normal room and one is plat one is gold and the gold memeber is competely paying for the room
hotel in barcelona refused to end bill in his or i had to pay for the breakfasts.
what is the usual story there
im very confused as I though whomever pays for the room gets the points.

The rule is that a member must stay and pay. If payment if by cash and points and member didn't pay cash and points, seems the member didn't stay and pay.

The booking must be in that person's name and with that person's SPG number as well.

I would contact [email protected] and see what they have to say. They will override the hotel if appropriate.

Yes.

OP also mentioned free breakfast which is the Plat benefits. If Plat benefits are offered, then it's Plat member who is member of record for stay with credit and points, regardless who actually paid. If no breakfast and only Gold benefits consumed, then it's clear that Gold member gets stay and points credit.

No, members do not earn Starpoints for the cash part of a cash and Stapoints stay.
