SPG upgrades at Element?

Do they give any ? or is it best to just book a bigger more expensive room?

This may help
No Platinum upgrade at Aloft/Element - Has this changed?

As I always suggest, book the room type you want! Don't hope for an upgrade.

This was in the T&C
Subject to availability at check-in for the entire length of the stay, provided the room was not booked through a pre-paid third-party channel. Specialty Suites such as, but not limited to, premium view, Presidential, Honeymoon, and multiple bedroom suites are excluded. This benefit does not apply to all-suite hotels. Best rooms are identified by each property and may not include upgraded Towers level accommodations unless Towers level accommodations were booked originally. The upgrade benefit is available for one room for the personal use of the Member only, regardless of the number of additional rooms purchased by the Member. This benefit is not offered at Aloft and Element properties.

Anecdotal--they don't have to, but they might. If it really matters, book the bigger room.

We've received an upgrade at the element in houston a few times, and a few times we didn't. We don't push either way, and of course YMMV.

Hmmm, the Beijing aloft in Haidian District has upgraded me to a suite. But just once. The Element in Harrison just out of Newark NJ has given me the best room available when I asked. Was unaware Plat benefits do not officially apply at either brand. Bummer.

Element is an extended stay property, so I would expect them to be constructed with many more suites than regular rooms. However, I would not expect someone staying for four weeks to be given a free upgrade. IIRC there are discounted rates offered for longer stays.

I stayed at all four types of rooms before at Element Summerlin:

Studio Suite - not a real suite, just a big room
One Bedroom Suite - separate bedroom and living room
Two Bedroom Suite - two studio suites connecting together
Executive Suite - a larger one bedroom suite, separately by a full-size kitchen in the middle between the living room and bedroom.

Yes, but an SNA is very different than a "complementary" elite status upgrade.

This thread is about elite status upgrades, yes?

The OP didn't specify.

I've had as many complimentary upgrades as SNA upgrades since I mostly do 1 night stays so I haven't thought about the difference between complimentary and SNA upgrades. It'll matter to me next year, as I'll be keeping Plat status based on stays, not nights (no SNAs for me).
