I have been on a month-long trip and have earned about 45 nights (group bookings) within a couple of weeks, so I just became platinum. I will say, since upgrading my status, I've been 2 for 2 on suite upgrades, which I think is a pretty good statistic (and can only get worse :-/ haha)

Comments: I didn't even have to ask. They just let me know I was upgraded upon arrival. I was actually surprised because they have both studio and "renewal" suites, so this was a big upgrade. The suite is HUGE and absolutely beautiful. I will note that I have been staying in SPG properties constantly for the last few weeks, so since I knew I'd be making platinum for this stay, I emailed the "Westin Guest Experience Manager" ahead of time to let them know that my platinum status may not yet be in the system, and to please check. So maybe they were just being extra nice for my first platinum stay. Either way, I'll take it!

Comments: Upon arrival, I was "upgraded" to a Westin Executive Club Room, which is just a regular deluxe room with a foot massager and on a higher floor. I asked if there were any suites available, and they apologized and said there were none. I pushed a bit, but politely, but figured I would just have a room this time. Then after going to the Club happy hour, I was told that a suite had just possibly become available if I'd like to change rooms. I accepted, and was upgraded within 3 hours after check-in. This room is also very bit and nice, with actual partitions separating the rooms. It's in a much more classic style compared to the above property, but with beautiful panoramic views of the Yangtze river from all rooms.

Comments: I got upgraded upon arrival without asking. The room was quite a bit smaller than the other suites I've gotten (and it's showing its age), but still a suite, with a beautiful view of the lake.

Comments: I was first told that there were no suites or even corner rooms available, and on the first day, stayed in a very small room on the club floor. It seems I'm getting spoiled, because I decided to push this a bit since last time I was here, when I had no status, I was given a corner room, so my expectations were possibly a bit raised from that. After I talked to someone at the Club Lounge, they said they'd see if a suite may open up the next day, and I never heard from them again. so the next morning, I asked again, and a suite was being cleaned, so I got upgraded! The room is beautiful.

Back then when they first opened I was told Studio Suites are the standard suites at this property. Looks you like you got a great upgrade. ^

Comments: Really nice view of the falls. Huge balcony with 2 lounges and a couple of chairs. Open the curtains and you sleep & wake up with the falls to the left of your bed...

No it's not that close. A pretty good walk from the property and even when I go outside the terrace, the birds are louder. If you're concerned of the noise, it's the guests yapping super loudly at the lobby bar at around 6 pm :-)
