Rechecking pet at MIA after international flight

Hello, all! I'll be traveling back to the US from overseas this fall with my Cocker Spaniel, who will be checked in his crate. I'd love to know more about the system at MIA for collecting my dog, clearing customs, finding the pet relief area, and then rechecking him onto my domestic flight to my final destination. I'll be traveling American Airlines, and I'll have a ton of luggage and a baby in a stroller, so I'd be grateful for any information that might help me to minimize stress during my connection. Thanks in advance for any and all help!!!
