Skyteam Makes Travel Within Chinaeasy And Affordable With New Chinapass (source: M2)

International passengers traveling to mainland China on SkyTeam partner airlines can now take advantage of discounted flight coupons on ChinaSouthern to explore up to nine cities of their choice. The ChinaPass, which launches today, is an excellent option for business and leisure travelers looking to make the most out of their trip to China.

Customers can purchase three-to-nine discounted flight coupons for travel within Chinain conjunction with an international round-trip ticket to Chinaon any SkyTeam partner. While all flights will be operated by ChinaSouthern, passengers can book the ChinaPassthrough any of the 11 SkyTeam members and the three Associates. There is no minimum requirement on length of stay and rerouting is allowed after first flight.

The ChinaPassoffers a discount of approximately 40 percent in high season and 45 percent in low season.

Hmmm, I wonder what booking class these will book into. Currently neither CZ L class (40% discount) neither CZ Q class (45% off) earns you miles in any but CZ's own FFP.

For the international flight, does Hong Kong count as "China?" I've considered flying there and applying for the mainland visa in person (because applying for it in the US is terribly annoying).

Flights to Hong Kong and Macau does not count as domestic China.

To be realistic, this advertisement is quite misleading (it's not easy at all).

Check the current climate for US Citizens getting visas in Hong Kong. During all the BS before the olympics the office in HK stopped issuing 1 year multiple entry visas and was substituting the old 1 month, single entry visas (though at the same price). The Embassy in the US was still issuing the 1 year multiple entry visas...

Some of the visa agencies don't charge much of a fee ($15-20), its worth it for me to do it here, especially with the 1 month vs 1 year visa... I never know when I'll need/want to stop in China again given the frequency of my Asian trips.
