Angry Moving Furniture to plug in my laptop

Again today...

lamp on the desk, unplug the lamp or the TV after I move the TV Credenza.

I mean just how expensive is a power strip?

Once upon a time

I believe it was at a Hilton property, though I forget exactly which one, they had the main armoire/TV stand bolted in place, covering exactly half the outlet that would've worked well to plug in the iron, rendering the sockets completely unusable.

I've thought about posting this for quite a while. For some reason this really gets to me when I have to search all over for a damn outlet to charge my laptop and phone.

Not just that I have to search for an outlet but once I do, the outlet is not near the desk, etc, making it difficult to use my laptop.

But by moving furniture you get to find all the treasures left by previous guests...and the cleaning crew!

Recently in Quito, I had to stack one of the arm chairs onto the table to elevate my laptop high enough to get a decent free wireless signal.

Most of the Hilton properties I stay at have an outlet in the desk lamp for plugging in my laptop. Very convenient!

I think the worst for me was a "Quality" Inn when I had to get down on my hands and knees and go under a dresser on a carpet so filthy it crunched.

You would think that anyplace the advertises their great in-room internet service would also provide the ability the power required to use it...but that's just me.

tell me about it...

The worst is when I want to use the laptop while laying in bed. I have to move the mattress and box spring in order to find the one outlet located under the headboard.

I agree -- I encounter this situation almost weekly.

Despite my preference for Hilton properties over Marriott, one thing I've found with several recent stays in newly renovated Courtyards is that the new Courtyard room furnishings include lamps on either side of the bed with outlets on them, similar to what Hilton is using at the desk in many locations, which makes using the computer while lying on the bed very convenient.

I carry a wireless router ($20), a 9 ft 3 outlet extension cord ($0.99) and rarely have to move furniture or crawl under the desk anymore. Even better I can use the laptop in the comfy bed.......nice. The total weight is only about 8 oz. The extension cord also comes in handy in airports or airline club lounges with limited outlets and I often share a single outlet with others who plugged in first.

I also now carry a 3 outlet mini-powerstrip thing that I can use at plug challenged hotels obtained from my local $1 store, and a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter.
