Which means they have not opened any public areas yet, only offices. I suppose they're waiting for consolidation works to be completed.

The security commission of "Seine Saint Denis", the area in which CDG is located, has approved the partial re-opening of Terminal 2E to the public.

This decision must now be approved by the Préfet, administrative authority of Seine Saint Denis.

If the decision is approved, two of the three buildings making up CDG2E could be re-opened in the second half of August. CDG2E would then manage from 2 to 10 flights a day.

Expanding on Jouy's post:

ADP to partially reopen to public damaged air terminal
Thursday August 5, 8:03 am ET

PARIS, Aug 5 (Reuters) - A Paris airport terminal which partially collapsed in May, killing four people, will reopen some sections to passengers in the second half of August, airport authority ADP said on Thursday.

A local government safety commission ruled on Thursday that all the necessary security measures were in place to allow portions of the terminal to reopen, Aeroports de Paris (ADP), the operator of Paris airports, said in a statement.

"This first stage will allow us to host around 10 flights daily and will have a positive initial effect on the functioning of the whole hub, which has been complicated by the transfer of flights previously departing from terminal 2E," it said.

ADP said that for safety and efficiency reasons, passengers would board through the former arrivals lounge and would be taken to airplanes via buses instead of connecting passageways. ...

Officials at the préfet office have confirmed that the opening will be approved, as soon as ADP asks. Air France plans to have a test flight on August, 10th and start 6 daily flights on August 17th. The terminal will handle 2 simultaneous flights at most, while it was designed for 12 or 13 simultaneous flights.

Do you think it will be enough to have a visible effect ? With the holiday flights, CDG has become a mess, and I fear that 10 flights less won't change anything.

If I remember correctly, CDG2E was handling around 50-60 flights per day. So 10 flights, combined with the additional handling areas being prepared in CDG2D, the temporary transfer of some airlines to CDG1 and CDG3, and the additional security checkpoints in CDG2F should ease some of the pressure on the other CDG2 halls, with a significant impact during September.

Hopefully

Some additional information :
- a test flight is scheduled for August 10th, to CMN
- if the test is successful, 4 daily flights to CMN and 2 daily flights to IST could be scheduled out of CDG2E, starting on August 17th

AF flight 1896 to CMN left CDG at 15:58. Passengers checked in at Terminal 2E and were bussed to the aircraft. Of the 93 passengers on the flight, 53 were connecting passengers.

This flight enabled AF and ADP to successfully test the new procedures. AF still wishes to improve some minor details and plans on moving the six daily flights to CMN and IST on August 17th, as scheduled.

A new boarding area should be operational on December 20th, after tests scheduled for December 15th. This new boarding area should be capable of handling, at peak times, 6 departing flights and will handle, in a first phase, 10 to 11 daily flights.

A second boarding area, also capable of handling 6 flights simultaneously, should be operational in mid-July 2005.

With these new boarding areas, CDG 2E should be able to handle 80% of its original capacity for next summer, an average of 4 to 5 million passengers per year.

Any news on whether or not the lounges will be operational?

The new boarding area is actually a new building located to the east of the middle of the three buildings, called the isthmus, where the AF lounges are located. According to ADP, the AF lounge will be re-opened.

This project was launched on June 15th, with the goal of having the new boarding area operational on December 20th.

Schedule:
1/ from December 15th to 19th, two of the six 2E operated flights are moved to this new boarding area
2/ from December 20th,
- flights to IST are transferred to 2B
- flights to CMN are transferred to 2F2
- 4 to 5 daily flights are operated to 8 destinations : SOF, AMM, TNR, PUJ, FIH, BZV, DAM and SDQ
3/ from January 18th
- 5 new destinations are operated from 2E : MEX, SXM, CAI, JED, BOG
- 10 to 11 flights are operated daily from 2E

Some airlines transfers
- AC returns from CDG1 to CDG2A on January 4th
- TN returns from CDG1 to CDG2A before the end of January
- TE returns from CDG3 to to CDG1 before the end of January
- Cabo Verde returns from CDG3 to CDG1 before the end of January

Thanks for that Jouy

I do love ADP public relations... such an extensive document, full of fine computer generated images of the new building. It all looks and sounds very impressive, UNTIL you reach the end of the document and see two actual photographs and realise that it is in fact a prefabricated...

So whats the permenant solution? I see mention that this building will be used until the "reopening" of the departure area of 2E. Have they decided if they are going to tear the existing building down or repair it? Any idea of when that could take place?
