Tips for hotels RIO and VCP airport

Hi

Snapped 2 very cheap tickets from AMS to RIO and back via VCP - SAO PAOLO to amsterdam (€212 per ticket )

Have some questions. I am going with a good friend and we will share rooms. We want to do this on a small budget so I was wondering if any tips could be shared

1. We would like cheap but clean hotel / hostel tips for Rio 14 april - 21 april

2. We have one late night flight to Sao Paolo VCP and need to stay over for the night there. Any tips on decent but cheap hotel neat airport? (21 april)

3. Next day we have a full day before we have to fly out with KLM to Amsterdam. What is recommended to do in Sao Paolo or nearby?

Appreciated!

If flying into VCP I assume you are flying Azul as it is the dominant player at that airport.
Personally if you are planning on spending the next day in Sao Paulo and arrive in VCP in time for the last departure of Azul's free bus transfer to Sao Paulo(leaves at 23.15), I would go into Sao Paulo on arrival, stay the night there and then you could leave your luggage at your hotel while you wander the city the next day.
A hotel like http://www.laguardia.com.br/ is less than $US100 (cheaper through other webistes) and this one has the Airport bus to GRU (from where your KLM flight departs) stop right at its front door.
I've stayed in Campinas but never by VCP airport so can't offer any other advice.

I think one of the best budget options right on the beach in Rio is the Arpoador Inn. It's at the junction of Copacabana and Ipanema and one of the very few hotels (outside of the Sheraton Leblon) that is on the beach side. We've also stayed in the Atlantis Copacabana and Atlantico Palace hotels (the former has a decent rooftop pool).

Lately, I've found Orbitz has the best hotel rates. For example, on my upcoming trip back to Colombia, Orbitz was $20 bucks a night cheaper for a hotel in Manizales than the others.

Are you aware the the VCP airport is actually in the city of Campinas, at least 100Km from Sao Paulo?
If you need to stay close to VCP, look up hotels in Indaiatuba. It's a smaller town that's closer to the airport than downtown Campinas is.

If you´re flying back to Europe from VCP that would be the TP flight. As MariaSF said VCP is 100km from Sao Paulo and the airport actually sits in the middle of nowhere. It´s about 20km from Campinas and 20km from Indaiatuba.

If you have a full day between arriving from Rio and your departure go to Campinas. Indaiatuba has a great night life ( the Pezão restaurant and bar - Av. President Kennedy, is highly recommended ) but not a lot to see during the day.

No, but looking at Z.bra hostel and other suggestions.

We fly to VCP airport but arrive very late. We have a full (next) day before we fly KLM out of GRU.

Thanks for the tips on hotels. I have a look!

I haven't stayed at the Arpoador Inn for years, but went back about 3 years ago to check on rates, and they weren't cheap (and the building was rather musty). It's about location, as mentioned by the poster. If you need a "budget" hotel, you should specify rates.

You do NOT want to stay in a hotel near the airport outside the airport grounds. There is a decent-looking hotel, the Luxor, in the Rio international airport, but it's expensive (rooms nothing great). There is also a cheaper pousada in the airport's basement; really small rooms. You could find lots of hotels in the centro area and even beach areas. As noted, VCP is in Campinas. I didn't see where you'll be the night before. If staying in Campinas is doable, great, otherwise confirm where the Azul bus leaves from.

Someone actually flies from VCP to GRU (which is actually in the city of Guarulhos, not SP, despite the presence of "Sao Paulo" in the airport's official name, as is also the case with VCP)??? That surprises me. What airline? In some cases you can get around the foreign credit card problem by calling the overseas offices of an airline (e.g, TAM) or phoning the airline directly in Brazil (assuming you can get someone who speaks English) or using a travel agent or, at least with TAM, using a site such as Expedia. You can certainly fly from many cities to VCP.

Azul announced a flight from VCP to CGH 2 months ago but I can no longer find it in their timetable - it was only one flight per week!!

I am not aware of any VCP-GRU flights although several years back GOL had flights on this route. I imagine with the explosion in air travel in Brasil that use of slots for such a short flight is discouraged.
From Campinas proper I would think the VIAÇÃO CAPRIOLI bus would be a much more convenient mode of transport to GRU (if your budget doesn't stretch to a helicopter transfer)
