Champagne
Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2000, Blanc de Blancs, Champagne, France
The house of Taittinger can trace its origins back to 1734, however the first release of its prestige cuvee Comtes de Champagne, made in honour of Thibault IV, was in 1952. This exceptional Champagne is made solely from Chardonnay grapes sourced from the Grand Crus vineyards of the Cotes des Blancs and is only released in great vintages. The finest quality first pressing of grapes is all that is used prior to the wine's maturing for ten years in the fourth-century chalk cellars under the Saint-Nicaise Abbey.
White
Beaune du Chateau Blanc 2007 Premier Cru, Bouchard Pere et Fils, Burgundy, France
The Chardonnay grapes for this wine are sourced from four Premier Cru vineyards lying to the east of Beaune : Les Aigrots, Les Tuvilains, Les Sizies and Sur les Greves. The harvest is picked by hand, and the grapes are fermented and matured in French oak barrels. The 2007 vintage was reliably saved by the drying winds that arrived in late August, and this wine shows an admirable depth of flavour allied to a fine acidity.
Laurenz V. Charming Gruner Veltliner 2005, Kamptal, Austria
Lenz Moser, grandson of the inventor of the first modern vine trellising system and great populariser of Gruner Veltliner, puts aside wine from the best vintages to be released when he considers the wine is drinking at its very best. The grapes ripen on granite, gneiss, slate and loess soils, and the cold air from the north slows the ripening process. The result is a concentrated wine that pairs perfectly with a range of food styles from seafood to Eastern-spiced dishes.
Mitchelton Airstrip 2007, Central Victoria, Australia
Made from a blend of Rhone varietals - Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier - this food friendly wine offers a range of flavours and textures. The Mitchelton Estate has a rich wine-growing history dating back to 1860, and this wine features estate-grown fruit from ancient riverbed soils adjacent to the Goulburn River. The wine was barrel-fermented and then matured in French oak barriques for nine months. Mid-gold in colour, the wine exhibits ripe stone fruit aromas that are repeated on the palate in tandem with a luscious texture and lengthy finish.
Red
Chateau Lynch-Moussas 2004, Seme Grand Cru Classe Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
Ranked as a fifth growth in the 1855 Classification, Lynch-Moussas has been owned by the Casteja family since 1919. The vineyard is comprised of an area of sixty hectares adjacent to Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Duhart-Milon and Batailley in the commune of Paulliac and is planted with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. The fruit is handpicked before fermentation in stainless steel, temperature-controlled vats with subsequent maturation in French oak barriques, a significant proportion of which is new every vintage. The 2004 Lynch-Moussas is now mature and drinking superbly at present.
Dinastia Vivanco Rioja Reserva 2004, Spain
This reserve wine is from the outstanding 2004 vintage in Rioja and features a blend of carefully selected Tempranillo grapes together with a small proportion of Graciano. The wine was fermented in large French oak vats before being aged for two years in new oak barrels. It then spent another two years in oak vats and in bottle to fully integrate the flavours before release. This wine featureas aromas of spicy oak, as well as mature black and red fruit, plum, cherry and damson. On the palate the wine has intensity and balance with soft, round tannins, and a long finish with hints of toast and liquorice.
D'Arenberg The Wild Pixie 2008, South Australia
D'Arenberg winemaker Chester Osborn has been called "a wild pixie" for his unusual blending activities, in this case the addition of 5% of the Rhone white varietal Roussane to a fine McLaren Vale Shiraz. The result is this complex dark wine with black fruit, violets and liquorice aromas and flavours. The wine was made in small batches and then foot-trodden halfway through fermentation before a final basket pressing. It was subsequently aged in a mixture of French and American oak barriques for one year. 2008 is the launch vintage of this outstanding wine from the renowned d'Arenberg winery.
Dessert
D'Arenberg The Noble Mud Pie 2008, South Australia
This blend of Viognier, Pinot Gris and Marsanne is a sweet triumph for winemaker Chester Osborn. A hot summer followed by a cool autumn were the perfect weather conditions for the onset of Botrytis Cineria, the "noble rot", which can add a patina of complex flavours to sweet wine. Aromatic with a perfume of rose-water and ripe stone fruit, the palate features deliciously textured flavours of poached pears, tropical fruit and honey. Delicious with fruit, pastries, blue cheese or simply on its own.
or
Coteaux du Layon St Aubin Les Varennes 2003, Domaine Cady, Loire, France
Situated on the steep slopes of the Layon tributary of the Loire River, the vineyards of Domaine Cady are ideally placed for the production of great sweet wine. This delectable cuvee is pale gold in colour, showing the ripeness of the grapes at harvest. The Les Varennes Coteaux du Layon is a classic Loire moelleux, with a lovely candied fruit nose of mandarin oranges and lemon peel, and fresh citrus notes allied with overtones of botrytis. On the palate it has a delightful balance of weight, sweet fruit and freshness together with the unctuous richness of a classic late-harvest wine.
Warre's 1992 Colheita Tawny Port
Complex, sweet, nutty flavours offer an admirable after-dinner glass.

Aromatic with a perfume of rose-water and ripe stone fruit, the palate features deliciously textured flavours of poached pears, tropical fruit and honey. Delicious with fruit, pastries, blue cheese or simply on its own.

Complex, sweet, nutty flavours offer an admirable after-dinner glass.

Cuatro Rayas 2009, Vinedos Centenarios, Rueda, Spain
As its name suggests, the Vinedos Centenarios is sourced from vineyards that are over one hundred years old. The low-yielding Verdejo vines produce a concentrated, yet fresh and lively wine unmarked by oak with an aromatic, herbaceous character, providing an interesting alternative to Sauvignon Blanc. The Rueda region is situated in Castilla y Leon to the northwest of Madrid on predominantly limestone soils, and winemaking there dates back to the 11th century.
The Ridge 2005, Graham Beck, Robertson, South Africa
The Ridge Vineyard is located on the eastern slopes of the Rooiberg on Graham Beck's Robertson farm and is planted with low-yielding Shiraz vines that are 14 years old. The grapes were handpicked before fermentation and maturation in new French and American oak barriques for 16 months. The wine has a dark, plummy colour and features aromas of intense cherries and rich berry fruit. On the palate the fruit emerges beautifully in tandem with the oak flavours and leads into a lengthy, structured finish.
Dessert
Coteaux du Layon St Aubin Les Varennes 2003, Domaine Cady, Loire, France
Situated on the steep slopes of the Layon tributary of the Loire River, the vineyards of Domaine Cady are ideally placed for the production of great sweet wine. The Rueda region is situated in Castilla y Leon to the northwest of Madrid on predominantly limestone soils, and winemaking there dates back to the 11th century.

Tappanappa Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay 2008
Piccadilly Valley, South Australia
From South Australia's most famous and iconic Chardonnay vineyard, this wine shows what the Tiers vineyard is truly capable of producing. It is regularly judged amongst the best (think Leeuwin, Mount Mary, Pierro) in the country. It has exceptional fruit purity and drive on the palate with spicy oak complexity and a profile that builds in the glass. The previous three vintages were awarded 95 or 96 points by James Halliday and Jeremy Oliver. The '08 continues in the style of the earlier wines, although it's tighter and more restrained as a young wine and will consequently age for longer.
Peter Lehmann Wigan Riesling 2004
Eden Valley, South Australia
The 2004 vintage is held in high regard in the Barossa, giving white wines of excellent regional and varietal character. Named the Wigan, after Chief Winemaker Andrew Wigan, the Wigan Riesling is a testament to his international success. This multiple gold medal winner has the classical Eden Valley lime bouquet and is showing the first hints of toastiness, the result of time in the bottle. The palate is remarkably youthful with fresh racy acidity and a honeyed deepening on the middle palate. Eden Valley Riesling at its finest.
Dalrymple Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Tasmania
An exquisite little vineyard and some very skilled winemaking indeed, this wine is rich, complex and very drinkable. "Nestled in a cocoon of mixed vegetation and rolling hills, Dalrymple enjoys a unique and seductive aspect shared by only a few boutique vineyards littlering Tasmania's Pipers River region. Discovered by Dr Bertel Sunstrup in 1987 after a long search for the perfect site, this small mature vineyard is now owned by the Hill Smith family and produces some of Australia's most distinctive cool climate, regional wines. "A pure wine of radiant fruit, free of any distracting elements, lustrous with lychee and penetrating with passionfruit!" - Wine Mag.com.au
Red Wine
John Duval "Entity" Shiraz 2005
Barossa Valley, South Australia
The aim of Entity is to produce a wine true to the Barossa Valley. The John Duval Shiraz is sourced from old vineyards that bare ruddy fruit in the north and eastern districts of the Barossa Valley. The more subtle French oak was chosen to complement the ripe blackberry, blueberry fruit.
Yabby Lake Vineyard Pinot Noir 2008
Mornington Peninsula, Victoria
Inspired by the classic wines of Burgundy, Yabby Lake Vineyard wines are a tribute to the unique Mornington Peninsula terrior, and the skills and experience of winemaker Tom Carson. This wine exhibits a great depth of colour. The bouquet is of ripe black cherry, dark forest berries and Asian spice with perfumed oak aromas. The palate displays a complex array of ripe small berry characters and spicy oak.
Leeuwin Estate "Art Series" Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
Margaret River, Western Australia
Established in 1974 by Denis and Tricia Horgan with initial help from the Californian winemaker Robert Mondavi. Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Margaret River wine with pronounced blackcurrant/cassis, earthy, leafy characters. It has a highly concentrated palate with fine, but pronounced tannins, underlying new oak and indelible acidity. The 2004 was an exceptional vintage year in the Margaret River.
Dessert Wine
Brown Brothers "Patricia" Noble Riesling 2006
King Valley, Victoria
One of Australia's most consistent dessert wines. Bright gold, it has an intensity of flavour that explains its plethora of gold medals and trophies; its low alcohol and citrusy acidity are the keys to this wonderful wine.
Champagne
Taittinger Comtes de Champagne
Blanc de Blancs
Universally regarded as one of the world's finest Champagnes, Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs is an exceptional vintage champagne boasting remarkable finesse and elegance, recognised as the jewel in the crown of Champagne Taittinger's cuvee. This outstanding wine is only produced when the harvest is of exceptional quality and worthy of vintage champagne. It is made from the first pressing, exclusively from Chardonnay grapes grown in 100% Grands Crus vineyards. This pedigree produces a delicate and finely balanced champagne that has gained world-wide recognition amongst connoisseurs.

First Class Wine List
Champagne
Dom Perignon Vintage 2000
The very fresh and youthful millenium vintage of Dom Pérignon is soft and approachable. Persistent tiny bubbles race up to the top of your glass, assisting in the release of the subtle aromas of hazelnut, lemon cream, pear and red apple. Ultra fine, with a very active bead that just floats across the palate. Elegant, unobtrusive and balanced. The finish is delightful with lingering stonefruit flavours.
White Wine
Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru, Les Folatieres, 2008, Henri de Villamont
What makes Puligny-Montrachet so special? Well many things, but primarily; balance, harmony and finesse. In addition, they are noted for having a steely, vibrant core in the very centre of their abundant flavours. 'Les Folatieres' is the best known Premier Cru terrior in Puligny-Montrachet, the vines are richer and fatter than elsewhere in the village of Puligny and hence can be broached quite young. The example here, from Henri de Villamont, shows this angular beauty thoroughly and has a really long and intense finish.
Isabel Estate, Sauvignon Blanc 2008, Marlborough
Crisp citrus fruit abounds here with the elegant Isabel Estate 2008 Sauvignon. This vintage is tighter and more mineral based than some of the recent ones that - in the quest for the Kiwi Sauvignon style - have allowed themselves to become a tad blowsy. This family owned winery makes splendid wines. A perfect aperitif and a joy with seafood and fresh water fish.
Red Wine
Chateau Rauzan Segla, 2001 Margaux
After a very shaky track record in the 70's and 80's, culminating in the property being owned by ex boxer and entrepreneur George Walker. Boxers and Bordeaux were odd bedfellows and it's now owned by the couture house of Chanel. In the 90's Rauzan Segla started making wines befitting its Grand Cru Classe status. Here, the 2001 is drinking beautifully, with hallmark cedar, cassis and roasted herbs. This is quintessential Margauz.
Felton Road, Pinot Noir 2008, Central Otago, New Zealand
After a four year courtship, Felton Road, arguably the finest grower of Pinot Noir outside Burgundy, agreed to let Emeriates take a parcel of their highly sought after wine. Deep into New Zealand's beautifully dramatic South Island lies the region of Central Otago and the ideal terrior for this capricious variety. The top Kiwi Pinot has grace, verve and an abundance of clean raspberry and bramble fruit flavours. The uniqueness is as much about the freshness and soft tannins, as it is about complex fruit definition. Fully organic and biodynamically produced, the Felton Road 2008 is a beauty - and splendid in the air.
St Hallet "Old Block" Shiraz 2005, Barossa Valley
A blockbuster Shiraz from the hot Barossa Valley near Adelaide. The 2005 St Hallet Shiraz displays the hallmark richness, ripe blackcurrant and spicy complexity of the regions best fruit. The sheer weight of the wine is managed splendidly by a clean freshness that gives both balance and a sense of elegance, not often associated with the Barossa. An acknowledged icon wine of Australia, the "Old Block" derives its fruit from vines of 60 to well over 100 years old. The tiny yields these knarred plants gives ensure that this wine is naturally rare. Try it while you can.
Dessert
Chateau Rieussec, 2003, Sauternes
Devotees will need no introduction to this great wine. For the novice, the chance to sip and savour the great 2003 Rieussec is a treat and superb induction to the genre. Honeyed power, great definition and excellent viscosity. Thick and juicy seem simple words for such a spectacular wine, but that is what its like. Perfect with foie gras or as a digestif after dinner, the extraordinary flavours just go on and on.
Warre's, 1980 Vintage Port
The oldest British-owned Port house was founded in 1670 by the Warre brothers. For a 28 year-old Port the 1980 is still a deeply coloured, very impressive looking wine. Very open and mature, creamy, fine, as impressive as its appearance. Broad and expressive of black and raisined fruit, with a massive structure beneath to keep it all together. A small glass is the ultimate digestif.

White Wine
Condrieu 'Les Cassines', 2008, Paul Jaboulet Aine
Condrieu, the unique dry white from France's Rhone Valley is best drunk young and fresh. This example has a wonderful mouthfeel with intense peach and apricot and mineral notes that all weave seamlessly through the racy, full bodied finish. At once lush and invigorating. A wine often copied globally (as simply the grape-Viognier), but without ever achieving quite the balance you have here.
Martin Codax, Albarino, 2007, Rias Baixas
The Rias Baixas region of North West Spain has become renowned as a fine producer of the Albarino grape. It has the verve of Sauvignon but with more breadth and a lifting perfume on the nose. Bottled under screw cap to retain its freshness and delicate aromas, Albarino is best drunk young as this 2007 example shows. Martin Codax is a superb and diligent producer and we're delighted to list our first Albarino here.
Red Wine
Chateua Pavie, 2002 St Emilion Grand Cru Classe
This particular Chateau Pavie has been slumbering in our cellars for some years and is now drinking wonderfully - as the 2002 vintage has tended to bring its wines on early but with much soft fruit. In the classic modern Pavie style, the wine is dense, ripe and full of deep black and red fruit. Allow the aromas to float around your glass before you head in - your patience will be rewarded. Owner Gerard Perse has found some critics of his rich forward fruit style, but there is no denying that the wines he now produces are the yardstick for contemporary St. Emilion.
Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru, 2006, Close des Guettes Domaine A-F Gros
The top vineyard in the village of Savigny Les Beaune, today shared by a number of growers, is the elevated 'Close des Guettes'. A perfect and typical example of this appellation, the 2006 presents an elegant bouquet with strong aromas of morello cherry, blackcurrant and raspberry evolving into strawberries and the forest floor after several years. The body is well structured and shows lots of terroir characteristics. It should be ideally enjoyed with red meats or poultry and also goes well with cheese.
Columella Eben Sadie, 2007, Swartland, South Africa
Eben Sadie's Columella is for many the apex of the new and exciting hierarchy of South African red wines. The 2007 is quite intense, with a heady concoction of fresh red and black fruits and spicy depth. Just a hint of eastern spices, maybe even a touch of ginger. Underneath the fresh spiciness there's some brooding liqueur-like depth of fruit. The palate is concentrated, full and shows good complexity to the predominantly dark fruits profile. It's very well structured with lovely purity and integrated oak. A stunning wine.
Dessert
Chateau Filhot, 1998, 2eme Grand Cru Classe Sauternes
More versatile than most think. The 1998 Filhot is a very pale, golden wine. Ample and mouthfilling, but not huge or hedonistic. Juicy white peach flavour, like the nose, with a touch of vanilla and cream. Succulent yet balanced finish.
Croft, 1994, Vintage Port
The Croft 1994 has compact, intense blackcurrant and cherry aromas, followed by a rich, firm palate with a good tannic structure. Drinking beautifully now, will age for decades - the sign indeed of an outstanding vintage. The Croft 1994 Vintage was a Wine Spectator Top Scorer with 96 points and is generally regarded as their finest effort since the legendary '45.
