Diners card with chip?

I noticed that the visualization of the DC card in the diners system has a chip on it, and the card has a 16 digit number (both would be really welcomed improvements!). I wonder whether this is just a lousy graphic work, or indeed changes are coming.

Not being able to pay with my old DC Card at the SofitelSo Bangkok they exchanged mine around June for a new one with chip.

This week i received an newsletter officially introducing the EMV-Chip:
- all cards which get renewed after expiring will be with EMV-Chip.
- advance change possible for €10 / around USD 14

More (not really) Infos here http://www.dinersclub-newsletter.at/archiv.php?n=1518

Does this also hold for Scandinavian Diners? Too bad, I just got mine renewed, but I really welcome Diners starting to look more like ay other card. More and more often I see operators that do not know what to do with a card without a chip, and I also see websites that say that they accept Diners, but the validation rule for credit card number requires 16 digits ...

in 2015 Chip embedded cards will be mandatory in the US (should have been already 1 year back, but postponed), so expect that all cards issued as of 2015 will be chip embedded. It is a problem already for US issued cards and customers that they can't always be sure to use their cards outside US.

It's pita not that diners doesn't have chip on it. It worked fine in the US but then here in Scandinvia/Europe you need cards with chips.

Hopefully I will make diamond in a month. Then they will probably replace my gold card without chip with a diamond with chip :-)

Wonder if DC would be better accepted by shops if they have chips. No news from Danish DC regarding the chip card.

I would bet the chip won't change anything.

The problem with Diners and AMEX are that it costs the merchant lot more than Master/Visa. Diners even more than AMEX.

Current cost for the merchant per transaction:
Master/Visa: 0,83%
AMEX: 1.75%
Diners: 2.09%

While AMEX and Master/Visa have steadily decreased the merchant fees to raise acceptence, Diners kept their fees quite high:

Code:
                Master
                Visa Amex Diners
Mar-2003	1.45 2.51 2.36
Mar-2004	1.08 2.48 2.32
Mar-2005	0.99 2.39 2.30
Mar-2006	0.96 2.27 2.25
Mar-2007	0.92 2.19 2.16
Mar-2008	0.86 2.13 2.13
Mar-2009	0.88 2.01 2.07
Mar-2010	0.87 1.94 2.13
Mar-2011	0.86 1.89 2.10
Mar-2012	0.86 1.84 2.10
Mar-2013	0.83 1.80 2.05
Mar-2014	0.83 1.72 2.01
Jun-2014	0.83 1.75 2.09
That explains why AMEX and Diners can afford to credit double the amount of points on purchases

That could also explain why there is no EBAmex in Denmark. I don't even know why there is still Diners in Denmark (I thought now Diners are Discovery?)

A bit OT but anyone got a Visa from Nykredit that gives EB points? Mr. tried to get one but they insisted that he has to move his loenkonto there to even be able to qualify for a card. We used to use Nykredit but then we changed because of the account fees. Please let me know if you get a nykredit visa without having a bank account there. TIA.
