The Ontario lineup is a joke.
Not sure whether National really cares much about their frequent renters, as the selection is really poor. Has anyone considered forwarding the link to these posts to their corporate office? Might get them off their butts...
EXECUTIVE SELECTION
Malibu's (probably 90%) - base models, NO satellite, leather, etc.
Impala (1 or 2)
Nissan Altima
Toyota Camry
Toyota Avalon (with 35K miles!!!)
EMERALD AISLE: Exactly the same. More 4-cyl Altima's and Malibu's.
One question...If the executive selection is supposed to be full-sized or better, how can they put 4-cyl base model Malibu's in the line? By National's own definition, full-sized has at least a 6-cyl engine. I'm pretty disappointed in the overall selection in both the Executive and Emerald Aisles.

TorVegas81 - please allow me to welcome you to Flyertalk and our National Forum.
For housekeeping purposes, I moved your post to a new thread so that the Index "self updates" when people post more comments on ONT.

Anyone have a more recent update? Ill be flying in in two weeks or so, just wondering what they've had recently. Also, does anyone know if I would be charged more by taking a compact on an EA reservation if I was to find something more appealing there?

No update on the location - but you should be fine taking a compact on a EA reservation since that is mid-size - so you're self downgrading which I've done before took either a mid-size or fullsize on a ES reservation (which is fullsize).

Car availability this weekday morning:
ES: Four Nissan Altimas, one Chevy Impala, one Ford Escape (new, but just 4-cyl FWD)
EA: a couple of Malibus, an Altima, a Jeep Compass, a Hyundai Sonata
Prem/Lux (the division wasn't clear, really): one Nissan Maxima (me!), a Kia Amanti, a couple of Lincoln Town Cars, one Buick Lucerne, a couple of Mercury Grand Marquises, a couple of Chrysler 300 (Touring, not Hemi 300Cs).
In what I thought was odd for a staffed, secured EA location, keys for Prem/Lux vehicles were kept at the counter. An agent said they had too many people 'self-upgrading': her words specifically.
There was a lot of empty spaces across all sizes but I thought this was a reasonable car selection and a helpful and conscientious staff.

Hi all, I'm renting with National for the first time at ONT next Tuesday. I have a mid size reservation. Any thoughts about how the selection has been lately? Thanks.

Last Sunday the Exec Selection was Malibus as far as the eye could see. There was also a 300 and one Grand Marquis, which I took for nostalgia's sake (Considering the Crown Vic/Grand Marq line has ceased production). It was like driving a couch for 200 miles...

was a little worried when i walked onto the aisle on monday evening, and saw a total of 9 cars on the entire lot.. but the exec aisle had a dodge challenger, a buick lucerne, a chevy impala, and a hyundai genesis. took the genesis, and i'm loving it... (i drive a hyundai azera at home, so the genesis is a perfect upgrade for me.. :-) )

ONT is my home airport, so I rent infrequently, but I have been impressed with the choices. The only two times I rented from ONT was to use my one-two-free coupons. The first time, I snagged a Mercedes for $27.00 in taxes. That was before they capped the car type for the 1-2-free promo. The second rental was either the Buick Lacrosse or Lucenre. A nice ride! Can someone comment on which of those two is the "official" top of the line product for Buick (if that is in deed the case).

Well, you can reserve a fullsize with 1-2 Free days. But if something better is on the Emerald or, if you qualify, Executive, Aisle, you can still have it.

"Officially" for Buick Lucerne > LaCrosse > Regal (at least for sedans). However, the Lucerne is older than the other two and aimed more towards the "older" customer.
