I've been to PSP a lot receantly and National just seems to have the average run of the mill cars. Pontiac Grand Prix/G5 namely! Nothing too special, now; Hertz on the other hand...They have some beauties.

I rented at PSP on Thurs 3/26 about 915PM. All in all not a real good rental experience. When I arrived the agent was helping a guy whose credit card had expired and didn't have the new one (or any other) with him and the agent took a lot of time to work with someone on the guy's cellphone to get the number. Also, he gave the guy an upgrade from a Fullsize to either MiniVan (Toyota Sienna) or Premium (Dodge Charger).

When the guy finally went on hold with his cellphone call, the agent assigned me a "regular" fullsize Nissan Altima.

The worst part was that I couldn't get the Altima's trunk to latch after opening it to load the bags. I went back in and the agent was still working with the guy without a valid credit card. By this time there were 2 others in line (1 with a Convertible Reservation who got a Chrysler Sebring and 1 with a FullSize (non Emerald Club person) who got another Altima). The agent insisted on going out to the car to fiddle with the trunk to prove that it would latch - he got it to latch and sent me on my way - I never reopened the trunk other than to unload the bags :td There were a few other Altimas around plus quite a few Avalons. Ok fine, my rate was very good, but shouldn't a "free upgrade" be given to an Executive member rather than someone who couldn't even be bothered to bring a valid credit card?

I love flying right into PSP but the car rental is the weak link (2x in the past the cars reeked of smoke). The guy who works the return in the mornings / early afternoon is great though.

I'd rather have an Altima than a Minivan or Charger.

Ron.

Have to say I'm with Ron on that one. I agree with you completely on principle Peter, and agents bumbling along from res to res without thinking logically is one of my National pet peeves. That said, the Altima is a nice unit and I would've preferred that, unless one of the Avalons was offered.

I also agree with Ron that minivan is not really an upgrade.

I used to book an economy knowing many locations don't have them, and i will always get an "upgrade".
More than a few times, I got a minivan; eventually I came to senses and went back to midsize / EA / ES.

Well since I brought up the issue - I would have objected to the Minivan but actually would have liked to try the Charger.

Picked up today about noon - they were very short of cars - only full size was an Impala that I got - several smaller imports - there was actually a Smart parked in one of the spots (wonder what classification they have that as).

Picked up about noon on 12/28/10 (anyone see a pattern? ) - on a full size reservation - I was offered an Impala (to which I asked what else is there - even though it only had 250 miles on it since I thought that it was a "basic" model - but turns out to be a loaded LTZ with leather) which I declined and was given a 300Touring upgrade.

I am renting here next week. I have a reservation for a Standard (Ford Fusion or similar). What are my choices at the lot?

Picked up yesterday 12/28 (now anyone see a pattern?) at noon on a prem res - waited for awhile for them to find the car (EC people are only suppose to get cars under some mileage) - got a 300 with cloth - 3k on it.

I feel like I'm talking to myself in this thread Picked up at 10PM on Thurs 3/22 with a Premium reservation. Given a choice of Avalon or 300 (which I chose because I didn't like the way the Avalon drove last week at SAT). Noticed that they had quite a variety of cars this time. On the way out noticed that they had just about every full size car in the fleet in the lot including an Optima. On the return 5AM on Mon 3/26, noticed a Mercedes C on the lot - (Avis had a Range Rover Sport).

Peteropny -- I apologize for going off topic, but I'm curious about your comment in the previous post about EC members getting cars under a certain mileage. Any chance you can expand on that?

Any idea if Avis carries the Range Rover Evoque?
