Convert hotel points into UA miles 1:1.25 (25% bonus)

Looks like united is running an offer until 8/21 to convert hotel points into more valuable UA miles with a 25% bonus!

A 25% bonus is not the same as a 1:1.25 conversion rate. As I read it, the hotel points will be converted to UA miles at the hotel program's usual rate (Examples - 2:1, 5:1, 10:1), and then UA will add 25% to the amount of miles received.

Discussion in progress in the UA forum:

To get the max 20K bonus, you would have convert enough hotel points to get 80K miles.

100K UA miles for:

800K Hilton
160K SPG
400K IHG
800K Club Carlson
400K Choice
400K Wyndham
80K Gold Circle

Hyatt: 200K Hyatt -> 120K UA (80K miles + 20K bonus on transfer + 25% promo)
Marriott (max 50K miles per year): 112K MR -> 62.5K UA

See this thread:

Apparently you need to use the "old" website to perform this function.

Looks like this offer has been extended to the end of this month if anyone needs to top off on UA miles. From the site:

Now's the perfect time to exchange your unused hotel loyalty program points into United MileagePlus® award miles. Convert your points now and enjoy a 25% bonus on all conversions of 5,000 miles or more - up to 20,000 miles. Hurry, this offer ends August 31, 2015.

Best deal is Marriott, especially if you have enough to convert for the hotel stay and points. It ends up being almost a 1:1 deal.

Can this 25% promotion be stacked with the hotel+miles vacation conversion?

This promotion says it gives the 25% bonus on transfers worth 5,000 miles or more. Not 5,000 hotel points.

Is this the opposite of how Marriott has vacation packages that give United Miles?

So you would convert Marriott into United Miles and then use miles to exchange for a hotel stay + Marriott points?

Even without the promo, Marriott yields 1:1.1 in the 7-night Travel Package. 120k MR -> 132k UA.

So I guess I missed an opportunity to go 120k MR -> 152k UA. That is indeed a sweet deal if you have a use for UA miles and a single contiguous 7-night Marriott stay. (It's the latter that I sometimes have to think hard about whether I really need.)
