DFW-HKG would be a long flight in coach, though.
Exactly. The NRT connection is better for total miles, but worse for the US challenge.

Thanks again to your responses hogo74 and skunker.

Based on some of the mileage runs available out there at the moment for Jan/Feb, what would be the best way to hit the 30k required on US/AA metal? How would you recommend doing it?

This thread isn't about JAL fares, it is about an AA fare. The question was in regards to a leg booked on JAL in Q, which you can do on this fare. But, you can do it with an AA code or JL code. Please don't confuse people.

quick question

"watch out to avoid the same flight number for DCA-DFW and DFW-HKG otherwise you'd only get the DCA-HKG mileage rather than the DCA-DFW and DFW-HKG mileage"

if the flight number is the same, your miles are calculated based on the shortest distance?

if they're not the same you should be ok, correct?

Correct, the same applies for DCA-DFW-NRT which is all one flight number in my example above. There are reports that some people received credit for the individual legs after upgrading using an eVIP. If you don't upgrade just count on DCA-NRT or DCA-HKG mileage and be surprised if you get something else.

Aa: $825 lax-dfw-nrt-bkk-nrt-dfw-lax

Routing through DFW on both way is 21102 miles. NRT-BKK-NRT is AA codeshare on JL so I am not sure about the earning rate to AA. Added bonus if anyone want to try the JAL 787 on NRT-BKK.

I believe it is the case however when booking on AA site it does not show miles for those sectors and scares me a little.

All flights booked with an AA flight number will earn qualifying and redeemable miles at 100%.

You can do an online search airport sector mileage not listed on the AA.com. site i. e. Nrt/Bkk 2892

Have no fear. I've booked hundreds of codeshAAres and got full mileage.

Looks like it's bookable beyond 4/15, as I just booked a return on June 15, 2015.
