Party pooper. I can be snippy about not-so-cheap airfares posted in this forum, but I think $600 summer tickets to Europe deserve their own posts. I guess I'm not a mileage "purist."

Well, I took advantage of the deal. I booked a late-July through early August trip EWR-DUS for $605 r/t per ticket. My wife and I will have our 3rd anniversary right in the middle of the trip. What with the European rail system and cheap rental cars, there'll be plenty for us to do in and around Germany for 2 weeks. The price broke down to basically a $150 fare and $450 in taxes and fees (the largest one being the 'international surcharge' which is what I guess they're calling their fuel surcharge these days).
The surprising thing was that as I hemmed and hawed over the $625 fare yesterday morning, something interesting happened. By the time I got home that night to talk it over with my wife, the price dropped another $20. I wasn't going to miss out on THIS deal. There WAS a fare about $4 cheaper but it was through Toronto on Air Canada. I wasn't THAT anxious to save $8.

Just booked EWR-MXP-DUS-ZRH-EWR for my wife and I 8/11-8/25 for $637 each on UA. Not a MR, but excited about the solid summer fare. Now just to find a suitable positioning flight from the FL panhandle...

I booked the same trip a few months ago, taxes+fees were $118.97. In addition I had to pay $25 booking fee since EI flights with avios couldn't be booked online
