This is on UA/LH, not US. Mods alerted to fix title. LH fares also book in to K, which does not earn on US/UA.

Connections via Austrian (VIE) are only $20 more.

sorry, my mistake....

it is united. please, mod., change

you can go transatlantic via ham for example, which is operated by united and should earn 100% miles on united.

Soooo. I booked EWR-ZRH-DUS-VIE-JFK on United, Swiss, Lufthansa and Austrian all in K. Do I get ANY Premiere qualifying miles on the non-UA carriers?

Hey now! Don't talk about us as if we can't hear you!

Yeah, if you have/want to go, it's a great fare.

I always have the "summer European travel conundrum" because it's almost never worth buying a summer coach ticket to Europe (especially lately) , and it's never worth redeeming mileage for "just Europe" from the East Coast. Like with UA, you can book a coach ticket to Asia -- and stop in Europe -- for 65,000 miles. For 60,000 you only get Europe.

Alas, $610 isn't enough of a bargain for me either, even though it's way cheaper than the average summer European fare.

The way I'm solving this problem is redeeming 30,000 Avios miles to fly BOS-DUB, but that's obviously not for everyone.

Are you flying Aer Lingus? I thought that route was 25k Avois RT in Economy or 50k RT in business, since it comes in at 2993 miles each way.
