Silver or Gold comp

Anyone know of any status matching or promotions to get Marriott Silver or Gold status or any challenges to get status with less nights/stays?

Just login your Marriott Rewards account, and send an email online to request for a Gold Challenge. They will upgrade you instantly to Gold - and this is temporary for about 2 - 3 months.

Here is an example of the email MR replied to my cousin's request back in Dec:

Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards regarding your inquiry.

Welcome to the Marriott Rewards program, the most rewarding guest appreciation program in the travel industry!

We would be happy to offer you a conditional upgrade to the Gold Elite level, which will be valid through March 31, 2010; however, an updated membership card will not be processed until the following terms have been met.

In order to maintain this status, you must stay 12 nights between December XX, 2009, through March 31, 2010. This is a one-time offer, and these dates cannot be changed.

Once you have stayed 12 nights, the Gold Elite status will be extended through February 2011. To retain this status for the following year, you will need to stay 50 nights during 2010.

Should you be unable to stay the 12 nights, your account will be restored to the basic membership level, and the only way to achieve the Gold Elite level back is to stay 50 nights during any 12 month rolling period.

Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance and for making Marriott your preferred hotel chain.

Sincerely,

XXXX name erased

Is this available for Platinum? And does it include existing bookings?

I am currently 12 nights short of Gold.
*I have 2 nights booked next week
*I have 15 nights booked end June/July
*And 5 nights booked in September

So I will definately achieve Gold this year and be 13 nights short of Platinum. Are there any options (other than extra bookings?) available to get me Plat by the end of the year?

Also.... how to I find out about "promotional" or "rewarding events" to add Nights?
I have MR reward credit card so already have 10 nights, plus I have recently recieved 10 Promotional nights but I am unsure why

thanks in advance

Yes, if they have not changed their policy. Ask for a 16 nights Platinum challenge (complete in 2 - 3 months).

What are the terms of this offer? I assume this is only available once I achieve Gold? Does it allow for pre-booked reservations?

I will achieve Gold 10 days into a 15 night stay (early July) and have a 5 night stay in early September - thats 10 nights after achieving Gold, leaving me 6 nights short?

Also... I am a MVCI owner and I am accompanying a friend on a Friendshare visit to MVCI in Spain for 5 days in March- are there any ways of adding the 5 day stay towards my account?

The short answer is yes, it is possible to get credit for MVCI stays. I got credit for a stay in Park City and another stay in Canyon Villas in 2009. (Park City was a standard trade thru Interval International and Canyon Villas was on last year's Gift of Time offer, but I'd hope that this would apply for Friendshare stays as well.)

I saved the instructions on how to do this. Try the following. (I hope this still works - I haven't checked since they made those recent changes to the Marriott website.)

Hopefully you have some sort of confirmation certificate that shows the Marriott reservation number for your stay. (I found it on my Interval International confirmation.)

Log in to your Marriott.com acount and click the tab that says, "Upcoming Reservations." Enter the above mentioned Marriott reservation number and your last name. Then click "find." On this page you will see your Marriott resort reservation and room type.

Near the bottom, this page will also give you a link to "Add a Marriott Rewards Number" to the reservation. Click this and add your number. Your reservations will now show up on your Marriott.com account.

To be doubly sure, ask the front desk clerk when you check in at the resort if they can be sure that your Marriott rewards number is added.

...Problem is that the MVCI reservation is not in my name. Its a comp for a timeshare preview that my friend is going on, but he has no MR account so thought I may be able to use the stay toward my elite status

Can current Silver Elites request the Gold challenge? My girlfriend has been stuck on silver for awhile, and it would be great if she could join me at the Gold level through one of these challenges. Thanks!

Yes, as my cousin just signed up as a new MR member and asked for the Gold challenge and got approved right away. The key is those nights that are qualified for the challenge need to be paid stays and not comp stays or rewards stays. Not sure about vacation club exchanged stays.

However, count your possible nights first before asking for a challenge, as if you fail to achieve the goals before the deadline they give you, that's it! You will be bumped down back to your original status and cannot ask for the challenge within the same calendar year. I made this mistake last year when I asked for the Platinum challenge so I would like to share my experience with anyone who are interested to "ask" and "take" the challenge.

You may have received rollover nights from last year.

I was one of the Silver-Platinum-Silver rollover members, so I thought the Plat Challenge would be a great idea. Here is what I got back from the Support Desk:

We are happy to offer you a conditional upgrade to the Platinum Elite level, which will be valid through May 31, 2010; however, an updated membership card will not be processed until the following terms have been met.

In order to maintain this status, you must stay 18 paid nights, not 16 nights that you found from Flyertalk, beginning February 24, 2010, through May 31, 2010. This is a one-time offer, and these dates cannot be changed.

Since I have 13 nights already scheduled through mid-March, this will be easy to complete.

My girlfriend requested the Gold challenge yesterday and it was honored. 12 nights in three months ... not a bad way to achieve status.

I'm thinking about doing this to achieve platinum.

Any word on whether or not you are eligible to renew your status with points at the end of the year if you were on one of these challenges? I could complete the Platinum challenge, but I doubt I'd be able to reach 75 nights, since I don't stay with Marriott exclusively.

My MR Account activity shows:

Nights stayed 2
Bonus nights 36
- Promotional 10
- Marriott Rewards Credit Card 10
- Rewarding Events 0

Does anyone know how to find out how Promotional bonus nights are awarded?
