MHUpgrade is MH's implementation of Plusgrade's bid on an upgrade platform.
  • You can check if your itinerary is eligible for bidding on an upgrade (most are) on MH's website here, but it typically takes 24-48 hours after the ticket is issued for the itinerary to be in Plusgrade's system
  • You cannot bid for flights departing within 72 hours
  • Minimum bids are dynamically set based on various factors, and don't appear to change as you get closer to flight departure
  • Tip: If you're bidding the minimum, you should consider making the bid in USD unless bidding in your home currency avoids credit card costs that are higher than the difference in pricing (see this post)
  • Bid amounts can be changed or withdrawn up to 72 hours from flight departure. It does not appear that you can update the credit card number
  • Accepted bids will be processed within the 72 hours window, generally prior to 48 hours to departure
  • If your bid is accepted:
    • The credit card will be charged
    • You will be rebooked in "I" class for business class, "P" class for first class
    • You will receive an email notification from Plusgrade
    • You will receive an email with your new eTicket from the airline
  • Within MH Enrich, mileage accrual is based on the fare class on your original ticket. For partner programs, without manual intervention, your mileage accrual is based on the class you've been rebooked into, not the one from your original ticket. Retro claims based on original booking may be required, it is unclear yet if they will be accepted or not.
    • Note that "I" earns nothing, including no segment credits or tier points (it's as if you never took the flight) on AA, BA, CX, and probably other carriers (check your program's information), so from a frequent flyer standpoint you might end up worse off
    • There are multiple reports from multiple users in this thread that mileage on partner programs (BA) will be credited based on the earning rates (if any) from original booking class, following manual intervention/claim.
  • Please read MH's FAQs

I believe MH deploys only the newer A333s on its Australian routes. On these you have the Recaro angled lie flat sleepers.

All their A330s should be refurbished now with the angled-flat business seats. I don't think they have any aircraft remaining with the old recliners in business.
While these are not as fancy as the Cirrus lie-flat suites CX puts in their A330s, they're "comfortable enough" indeed. I've had no trouble sleeping in them.

Don't know about that but for anyone who's wondering about business to first on KUL-CDG it's MYR5,000 (as of June 2014).

Put in for HKG-KUL, minimum bid was SG120. Upgrade was offered ~48 hours after booking, and ~96 hours prior to flight. Cleared about 18 hours later. Got the new itinerary with I class showing on the ticket before I got the "congratulations" email.

I have to admit, mostly did it to see if it would work and so I could report back here--it's a 3 hour day flight, although on a 777, so not exactly the most worth it

I am curious about two things, though:
1. The itinerary receipt shows I class--wonder whether it will credit accordingly (I know the T&C say it won't but it's actually been reissued, so...?)
2. The amount on the receipt is 215, not 120. The confirmation email states 120 both on the original bid and the "congrats" email, so this seems to just be a system artifact...?
Flew this a few days ago and can now report:

1. I class credited, which is ZERO miles as it is a redemption fare class. So you do apparently give up your normal mileage by taking the upgrade option. Since my fare class was O, I only sacrificed 791 miles, but it's worth remembering on a long haul or in a higher fare class.

2. I was charged the mysterious amount of 120.96.

On both of these, I'm too busy to fight about it, but thought it was worth sharing as it may not match peoples' expectations.

Also, the seat map showed only one empty seat in J, but the flight departed with ~9 empty, so clearly quite a few seats were blocked.

In the process of flying CGK-KUL-BKK return.

Booked at Mh.com

AS soon as booked, received offer to upgrade. Scale was 65 USD to 220 USD.
Bid 65 for each segment.
CGK-KUL-BKK cleared 3 days out, lowest offer.
Return flights did not clear.
