The others are probably a little out of our price range (we are staying for six nights here and 6 nights at RC Kyoto).

Glad to have that decision all made!
You'll love the hotel.

You have booked through Virtuoso/STARS agent or Amex FHR, right? That adds substantial value, especially in terms of possible upgrades.

I would book Club Carlton and hope for upgrade and/or negotiate.

The Presidential is a lovely suite, but incremental value is a subjective matter.

Yes, I booked through Virtuoso. Don't have access to Amex FHR here (Australian, so not many cards do provide that access).

FHR is either platinum or centurion (only)
some countries not 'easy' to get platinum

Virtuoso/STARS are sperior to Platinum FHR. (Cent. offers confirmed upgrades and enhanced amenities).

seems to match - http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/hotels...-carlton-suite

do some tokyo hotels do one-category upgrades all the way to top suite?
unfortunately seems hotels/chains limiting more now, vs 5-10 years ago

I am sorry, I was thinking of Club Millenia suites, which have the living rooms in the corner.

Yes, Club Carlton/Carlton suites do have corner bedrooms in my experience.

R-C Tokyo is an unusually flexible property for Japan, and I can say that at the level of top suites things are negotiable.

No hotel I am aware of offers one category upgrades all the way up to top suites as a rule, but it is entirely possible. The only upgrades possible from Club Carlton would be Presidential (one category) and Ritz-Carlton (two categories, top suite).

Whats the 'best' sushi restaurant to go to at the moment? Not a fan of Jiro's rushed service.

Tried getting Saito but RC concierge told me not to bother but try call up on the day for last minute reservations.

Heading to tokyo in a month if that helps. apparently mizutani is closing this month?

Depends. Very subjective question. Personally, I like hashiguchi.. Harutaka... Mizutani.. Miyako.

You can get a reservation at Saito. But it's more a day of thing.

It is certainly very subjective. And, anyone who needs to ask the question of what is the "best" sushi restaurant likely does not have the experience necessary to fully appreciate sushi at the highest levels. It's not about names, michelin stars, ratings, etc... My advice would be to go and explore, and try as many restaurants as possible, until you find your favorite.

There's so many different styles of sushi in Tokyo. It's tough to say what one is the best when each itamae has a certain, unique style.

There is no one best.
