Rosewood Baha Mar (Baha Mar, Bahamas)

Anyone headed there? Opens May 1 officially and I booked the July 4th holiday. I know it is "just" the Bahamas and seems to be a massive complex but Rosewood will have a private pool and beach. Good pre-opening Virtuoso offer as follows and rates are "low" for a Rosewood:
Virtuoso Preview Prive Package
• One category room upgrade at time of BOOKING
• Breakfast for two daily
• $200 spa services credit at Sense Spa (doubled from $100)
• PLUS, Special Introductory offer ~ Exclusive Rosewood at Baha Mar departure gift

Baha Mar

Congrats on your booking. Baha Mar is going to be spectactular. I was happy to learn there will be a Grand Hyatt there also. I was cruising by Baha Mar two weeks ago. Construction is coming right along. Incidentally, Atlantis is in the process of becoming a Marriott property. I took some pics of the construction but for some reason cant seem to post it here. I too am looking forward to going there when it opens. Congrats again on your booking!

Maybe it's because I'm based in the Southeast US, but I hear this sentiment all the time...the other country I hear this associated w/ is Mexico. "I know I'm just going to Mexico, but..."

The Bahamas are awesome. So is Mexico.

Congrats on the Baha Mar booking, and have a blast.

You have to let us know how you like it. I'm skeptical of staying in such a large development, Rosewood notwithstanding.

This is the first I have heard of this. Where is it going to be? It could be great for a quick trip.

200 rooms, development has ~2700 more rooms
(and development adjacent to other hotels too?)
presumably confirmed upgrade has some limit

$480 garden room
...
$2130 3BR oceanfront suite
? 3BR presidential suite
? 4BR beachfront villa

atlantis is marriott autograph, which is their program for independent hotels
new owner of atlantis is taking over management themselves
presumably they wont change one & onlys which they also got stakes in

So, May 1 was supposed to be it.

I wouldn't be surprised if this thing isn't open by X-mas.

Reports of Rosewood giving free flight changes + two free nights, as minimum compensation, to anyone with a booking who was cancelled by the delayed opening.

Any reports here? Being that the Bahamas is so close to FL, I'm very tempted to make a booking for August 1, the first day you can book on Rosewood's website.

They've been taking reservations. We've had almost a dozen cancellations for June/July.

They just recently changed the booking engine to only taking reservations for Aug 1.

The thinking is they won't be ready by x-mas at this rate.

Almost considered making a dummy booking for August 1-3, with the expectation they'll have to cancel it and it turns into a 2-free night trip

i looked in late march / early april and no online reservations for rosewood (unlike all the others, with varying dates for them)

http://www.tribune242.com/news/2015/...ys-dna-leader/
On Tuesday night Baha Mar announced that its highly anticipated March 27 opening had been delayed to "early May" due to ongoing construction work..That came four days after Robert Sands, Baha Mar's senior vice-president of government and external affairs, said only one hotel, the Baha Mar hotel and casino's core amenities, entertainment and recreation areas would open to guests on March 27. He also said that public spaces at the mega-resort's three other hotels - SLS LUX, Rosewood, and Grand Hyatt - also would be open on March 27 and that those hotel rooms would "come online shortly after."
canceled 2 days before opening, 4 days after confirming opening
whether it was contractor, or some specific thing was missed, either way there is clearly a problem with supervision and communication

i cant find another article that may have talked to (sands?) even closer to opening date
also an article (around mar 25) quoting local government saying something about july and august

http://www.tribune242.com/news/2015/...mar-slow-down/
“China Construction America admitted they had slowed down the project because a month’s payment for February was delayed,” one source said of the meeting’s key revelation. “That was a comment made in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Baha Mar spokespersons declined to comment when contacted by Tribune Business yesterday, but sources familiar with developments confirmed that China Construction’s February 2015 payment was delayed due to differences over the sum due.

“The payment was delayed,” one source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed. “But the two parties were in negotiations to determine the value of the sums due. All other payments had been met.”

A rep said, “We are still awaiting assurances from our general contractor regarding the opening date. We’re accommodating guests who have existing reservations, but not accepting new bookings at this time.”

“We are currently booking new reservations for late May and June . . . we expect Baha Mar Casino & Hotel and most amenities to be open in May with all rooms in all hotels completed later in June.”

They have been plagued by delays and accidents as Kage notes. Per my original posting here, we are booked for July 4th weekend and, after reading, various articles in the past few weeks, we reached out via our agent and they said they anticipate a soft opening during our stay and then a full opening sometime thereafter. Asked if we can rebook so we visit when the entire complex is fully operational. They were happy to accommodate and offered a resort credit in an amount equal to our flight change fees after I had mentioned that we will be incurring change fees. Never mentioned anything about free nights though. We are currently working with them on different dates and am curious to see if they honor the same $ rate (we had booked back in Aug 2014 using the Preview Prive rate which included many extras - they've confirmed they will honor the extras, but curious what $ rate they will offer us).

Pricesquire - have they proactively offered free nights? Why are they not offering the same to all guests.

I have had an August 1st booking for quite a while now and am starting to get nervous. Everything I have read indicates that the Chinese contractor and the Chinese owners are in some sort of feud and they are more or less in a work slowdown.

MY TA emailed them for me yesterday and has not heard anything back. This is starting to look a little dicey.
