I really think that some people seem get in a mindset where they find fault with every trifling thing and ruin their holiday as a result. Agree with both of the above.

I'm sorry you didn't have a stay you expected, but after reading your review, I'm still not quite sure what was so "terrible" about your stay at Kandooma. Was the bug the big deal? A naked little boy? Mandatory participation in a holiday meal? (BTW, all resorts have this -- you really should have researched...)

It truly is all about expectations.

Hi... I am planning a trip to Maldives to mix by using points and pay cash .

i noticed that the taxes is at 18% per guest, per night. is this right?

we are a group of 4 and i am in a limbo whether to get 2 rooms, or get their family villa. we want to get the family villa but of course the base price for the tax is higher, thus we may opt for the 2-br instead.

Award bookings no good value

Award bookings come with:
- 30 $ breakfast = 60 $
- 8 $ bed tax = 16 $
= total 76 $ extra for a couple per night

This makes it in the end a rather bad deal compared to the cash bookings

Does anybody know, in general terms, what the $250++ pp NYE dinner consists of? Presumably it's a buffet, does it include drinks?

Hi, would like to find out from anyone who have stayed here

- Is snorkelling gear available on a complimentary or rental basis? How much is the rental? How is the condition of the equipment?

- Are there any complimentary activities at the resort? Seems like almost everything is chargable...

Going to update some information here, since no one had an answer to my questions.

Complimentary activities - there is a complimentary snorkelling lesson and snorkelling trip to the nearby house reef every morning. The house reef is not accessible from the island itself, but definitely worth the trip if you are not going for other snorkelling trips eg. night snorkelling, turtle point, whale shark etc.

If you only want to snorkel in the lagoon, the best place is around the recreation and arrival jetty as the marine life in that area is pretty vibrant.

Snorkeling gear and life jackets are available on a complimentary basis and are in very good conditions.

Really enjoyed my trip, but if I go Maldives again in future, would certainly consider other resorts further away for better coral reefs and more variety of fishes.

Re: Children, yes there were children at the resort (It's a Holiday Inn, what do u expect?) , but they weren't a nuisance or anything like that. In fact, the hotel is currently building a new Beach Bar and Kids Club. If you really want a holiday without kids, book the neighbouring Cocoa Island, which is an adults-only resort.

a la carte?

Is there anyone who stayed there and chose not to have food package (I normally grow tired on 2nd day of the buffet menus). For my upcoming stay I am therefore considering to have breakfast included and have a dinner a la carte.
Any indication regarding how much (per day or per person per day) on average eating in hotels restaurants without a la carte will cost?

Also - searched the internet for any mention of the menus for the resort restaurants and didn't find any - anyone potentially know where one can find a link?

AX9465, I have just returned from a great week (literally last week) at the HI Kandooma during which we went fully a la carte. I will post a full review here in a day or two, and provide the menus and package details.
