There are buses from Tung Chung (#23), Tai O (#21) and Mui Wo (#2). You could also take a Lantau taxi, which I guess would be about HK$120 from Tung Chung, and a bit more from the airport.
Or you could hike there - many routes are possible.

Being scared is a more worrying condition than being sick. Avoid!!!

How is being trapped in an airplane different to a cable car?
Even flying from Australia you could be over an hour from a diversion airport.
Sorry if I am putting you off flying!!!
That said the bus is a perfectly fine way of getting up there, and is a lot cheaper than the cable car.

if you do decide the cable car. i bought return tickets from Klook. Saves waiting in the line for those that haven't booked.

This is just my opinion and I'm not suggesting that the OP ride it, but the cable car is by far the biggest draw of the whole Ngong Ping attraction... unless you go up there to do some hiking. The little shopping village up there isn't really worth it, except for the gelato place which is very good but no better than XTC. The Bhuddha statue is impressive, but is crowded with people and is really a modern creation. The way the cable car hovers over such great height for such a long distance (it's definitely the longest one I've ridden), with the surrounding scenery including HKIA and the seas, is really great. Take away the cable car, and I'm not sure I'd find Ngong Ping a worthwhile attraction.

On a plane I have privacy in the bathroom or suite however in that little glass box stuck in the sky, possibly with other people in it I would worry about getting sick. The stress of it would also make things worse too.
I know the cable car would be great. I like the idea of it if I could get off in a moments notice.

You might also consider avoiding elevators and the subway -- the likelihood of being trapped for a period of time in either of these isn't so dissimilar to being in a "little glass box stuck in the sky."

I have a think about elevators too. I never go on one if I am busting for the loo! I'm too scared to get stuck in it and have "to go"
