Same-day Island Hopping Fares?

I'm making a return visit to Maui next week followed by a few days on the Big Island at Kilauea Military Camp. I have some relatives who live near Oahu and i was considering a day trip over there to catch up with them. But, when I searched through Kayak, the same-day island hopping fares were considerably more expensive than those involving an overnight stay. Since I have already paid for the cabin at KMC, I really don't want to pay for a room in Honolulu. If nothing else, it would more than eat up the fare difference.

Does anyone have any tips about how to get a cheap over & back airfare? Itinerary would be ITO - HNL & return.

Thanks!

The least expensive fares on HA are the early morning and late evening fares. Perfect for "same-day island hopping"

If you don't make rez. far in advance you're SOL I'm afraid. Have you looked at using award miles with UA, HA or AA?

Kamuela

There are flights from Kamuela to Honolulu. You would need to drive up there if the rate was cheap enough. Volcano to Saddle Road to Kamuela (Waimea) or up the east coast.

Sorry if I think a couple hour drive to an airport is normal but I live on the Big Island.
