Guest Policy Pattaya/Bangkok Thailand Hotels

Hi! Visiting Thailand in a few weeks and wonder of anyone has experienced any problem having guests overnight. Are hotels now charging a fee for guest privileges? Thanks.

Generally if you book a room for two people you will be fine, especially at any of the more upscale hotels. You're likely to run into an issue if you book a room for one person and then have someone stay with you. If in doubt, just send an email asking if the hotel assesses a "joiner fee."

A smaller hotel could care/notice/keep track of someone staying the night.

Anything large like the Le Meridien, Banyan Tree, St. Regis, W, etc are not going to even notice.

Be careful bringing strangers into your room to overnight.

That's the email of shame, right there.

Even if you book a room for 2 persons, you may be subject to a "joiners fee" (usually from 800 THB to 1500 THB) when taking one of the local lads to your room. Joiners fee is not customary in BKK, but predominant in Pattaya and particularly Phuket.

You may try to sneak your guest into the room, but if the security guards or front desk staff notice it, you will have to do the walk of shame to the reception to sign/pay.

Hotels deal with this question/issue almost daily and won't blink an eye if you simply ask. To them it's equivalent to asking what time breakfast is served.

It all depends on the hotel.
According Thai immigration law the hotel has to report the guest name and information to immigration within 24 hours of arrival and therefore they should also ask this information for every guest you may have in your room.
BTW this is only applicable for foreign guest.
But as said most hotels don't really bother.
This is also the case for hotels in Pattaya and Phuket and the rest of Thailand.
Therefore the only way to know if a guest is allowed is to ask the hotel, most hotel will answer you openly if they allow it and if there is a charge or not.
