Other than Lithuania I have no desire to go to any of these places. As far as domestic, I live in Miami and its a strange area. Other than the few places in South Beach there are no gay bars that I know of. Gays tend to be dispersed throughout the area. I live in Coral Gables which has its share of gays (all the cuties driving around with their Human Rights decal and the Latin boys primping in the mirror at Equinox) but no bar or coffee house. Its kind of a hassle to schlep to South Beach, particularly given police petrols for drunk driving. It would really be nice to have a place to hang out locally.

Looks like Indonesia is becoming unsafe for GLBT.

Should I consider cancelling my Bali trip?
Gay bashing has become the newest favourite pastime in Indonesia, a nation that once prided itself on its record of tolerance.
This past month, the national news has been filled with daily attacks against a group of people known as LGBT - lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.

Oh well. I would even consider other parts of Indonesia (possibly except Aceh) safe for LGBT travellers. As a reaction to recent protests civil society responded strongly. Unless travellers are actively provocating reactions, they wont see any. Just behave normally.
I wpuld certainly classify the State of UT as more difficult than Indonesia, based on,personal experience.

i think there is a difference between where one is safe (or not) and where in the matter of discretionary spending one puts one's pink pounds (or doesn't). There is an argument that Australia, which puts our civil rights up for popular vote, should be on the do-not-go list. (Though my husband wants to go there so in the interests of harmony we shall be spending part of our next holiday there :-) )

You've probably done your research, but if you're after gay nightlife, then the strip of gay bars in Seminyak is the place to head to. I stayed there with my BF last October (at the Royal Beach Seminyak) and would recommend it. Although don't get your hopes up - it really just is a strip of several bars with various shows, and although lively and fun, can start to feel a bit samey after a couple of evenings.

Good for you - it's a lovely island.

I like Jamaica, but the people are pushy.
I would imagine that as long as you don't go around "queening" it up or being demonstrative, most places should be relatively safe. Those individuals who mince around like they're on Sunset in WeHo should not be surprised at the treatment they receive in other countries.

I have never had any interest in going to any of those places.
Furthermore, just as I avoid the middle east for vacations, I will also avoid all the states that are pushing the "religion freedom" laws (or have passed it already, like NC, MS and IN).
