French Cheques

My dad has just found some French cheques... dates 1 year and 3 weeks old... so 2 weeks over date.

However they are stamped by the branch... does anyone know if this guarantees them and can still be claimed or are they worthless now?

Thanks

French checks are valid up to 6 months beyond the date written on the check. You can try to cash them or perhaps you might ask the issuer to rewrite them.

Incorrect. While a 2017 law proposed reducing the validity to 6 months, the French parliament adopted an amendment to the law and thus maintained the validity of French checks of up to 1 year and 8 days.

The cheques need to be reissued, if the issuer is willing to do so. It should be no problem.

Most banks will still cash the cheques despite the expired validity but the issuer can oppose the transaction.
