I'm surprised it's not 3-3-3 – is the upper deck really too narrow even for that? I'm not sure whether EK decided not to squeeze in 3-3-3 in order to avoid complaints about a cramped layout (like the 777), or if there are other reasons (payload? Regulations on the maximum number of passengers on a plane?).

Either way, the upper deck looks like a good option. I'd be curious to see the seat width / pitch measurements. But crikey, that's a lot of people on one plane. You wouldn't want to be at the back of that immigration queue!

QF & SQ do 2-4-2 on the upper floor in Y
Both have Y at the end of the plane though. Not sure if the middle part is (much) wider.

Though it makes sense when retrofitting, I'd be strange to have Y before J :-) I guess it doesn't matter that much, but I also wonder if EK would continue this when ordering new 2-class A380's... Time will tell?

These are *not* being retrofitted (AFAIK). They are new 2-class A380s.

The OP is misleading.

That means the J passengers will get stuck behind the Y passengers when disembarking.

Those Y seats will become sought after. I wonder if EK would start charging a premium for upstairs Y? Or just reserve those for Golds/Plats?

Not really in Dubai, I'm sure they'll load, and unload the business pax first since the jet bridge will be connected to the galley that separates the two cabins.

It is also possible that embarkation and disembarkation for the economy passengers would be via the lower deck aerobridge and then up the stairs inside the aeroplane

But if there are 20 rows of Y - that will go back past the galley (I think!).

Oh yes. 2 + 4 + 2 = 8.... Not 6 as I had it

But 14 row of 8 = 112 rather than 120.

The two-class superjumbo’s could also “possibly” fly on services to London Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham in the United Kingdom, Clark told reporters at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) annual meet.

It is 24ABJK, then 8 rows ABDEFGJK then 33ABJK before the galley

With any luck (unless they put one on the BHX route) I wont ever need to go on a 2 class model of this.

Certainly sounds interesting, cant wait to see how they will keep economy passengers out of the bar too - a free drink at your seat (in economy) therefore a free drink at the bar in some peoples eyes...

I'm another who will be trying to steer clear of Noah's Ark.

Many folk already favour the 777 J class product over the 380. Perhaps the 2-class version of the latter will only strengthen that view.

I thought LGW had already been announced - from 1/1/2016?
