Being based in London, not many opportunities to upgrade using miles out of or into London. And for most DXB-India sectors, my op up success rate is pretty good anyway. By the way, this is a significantly reduced balance after I used it to get tickets for some family members.

I've been a Gold member by only taking the round trip flight SIN-MRU via DXB for the past 3 years. And from what I have experienced, MRU-DXB is 90% chance upgrade for status holders. DXB-MRU has around 80% chance.

2 passengers who were flying with me (not in my PNR or otherwise linked) got suddenly at the gate op up to J. I was really surprised as it was their first flight with Emirates.

It's been over a month with no reports, have people not been getting upgrades or do we need to make this thread sticky again?

Aicraft: 77W
Type of ticket: Business Flex
Route: VIE-DXB

Yamaha had booked out the J cabin for an A380 event in VIE on the 21st with the 80th A380 that was being delivered to EK (and as EK is launching A380 service to VIE next week), so about 5 or 6 pax got upgraded to F. Y was less than half full.

Service was a bit hit and miss (as often described in A380 J) but still far better than being in a full Y cabin.

Passengers on pnr: 2 upgraded
Was a great surprise to be upgraded to first, since we are only blue and have very little points in our skywards account, and also booked on a saver ticket. Was an excellent flight.

on a related note
Emirates sometimes sends out emails offering discount upgrade Economy to Business but whenever I received them I was upgraded at the gate for free
not yesterday on EK380 (DXB to HK), Economy had lots of empty seats
I boarded from the upper deck, 1st Class was near empty and Business Class far from full
offer was for AED1800 one way
