I'm a little disturbed by the word rip off. They ask for a price and if it is in your opinion to high just leave it. Why didn't you buy a J Class ticket at first?

It is a simple case of supply and demand. The demand for f and j to London is very strong, and people will pay hence the prices charged.

But where is it stated that holding an economy ticket entitles you to a "bargain" or "reasonable" upgrade offer?
If upgrades could be had for a "cheap" amount, regardless of economy ticket type held, and regardless of how full the business cabin already is, or is expected to be, why would anyone buy a business-class seat outright, when it is "better value" to buy a cheap economy seat, and upgrade cheaply?

The real ripoff with EK holidays is they book you into a flex bucket at a flex price but give you saver miles and fare rules. Try booking a ticket online directly next time and when you approach EK holidays book the hotel/excursion and provide them with your EK ref code. Upgrades will be cheaper that way
