I would hope Delta wouldn't be charging their Am Ex card holders MORE than their non-card cardholders. I can't imagine they would charge more to any other Skymile mile members than what we were quoted.

Interesting Delta is charging their highest tier the most for MQM's. Looks like they may be trying to thin out the ranks of diamonds a little.

I got the high tier, as well. I made PM for the first time last month and will end the year with probably 80-85K MQMs due to some travel jiggling, so no hope at DM. I'm pretty happy I got my mileage run in, though - over 8K MQMs for $350.

Although I understand personalized pricing for MQM, EC seats, and other "add-ons" to the base fare, I don't think this will mark the start of personalized base-fare ticket pricing.

The logistics of it are just too difficult, unless DL pulls out of letting Kayak, Orbitz, etc. see there fares and then book only on their website. Additionally, I can see many problems if when not logged in people can't book flights. This would require everyone to have an SM account, and would certainly cause lost revenue.

However...I could see a "base economy" fare that doesn't allow UGs, seat selection, etc (as is already sold in some markets) and then a personalization of "regular" economy tickets based on other factors.

Is this the future of flight?

I got Tier 4 (low tier). I am FO within 6000 miles of requalifying. I already have another trip coming up that will get me to within 2000 and a brief MR that cost substantially less than $475.

What's interesting (terrifying) is that this marks the beginning. Delta has dipped its toes into the "personalized" pricing waters. First it's MQMs, but the future holds flights, upgrades, preferred seats, etc. being sold the same way.

This is my situation. High Tier sitting on 121K MQM. Plat Amex Have enough travel booked through the EOY.

EXACTLY! In addition, we've seen DL removing transparency (upgrade and SWU inventory gone from GDS now) so we know where this is going... everybody is going to get their own "special" price based on how much DL thinks they can squeeze from your pockets.

Charging more isn't likely to have any effect on the DM tier, except for annoying/aggravating us.

High Tier for me, qualified PM in October for first time. Will end with ~ 87k MQM. Met Plat Delta Amex spend too if anyone thinks this might have an effect.

Data point:

Current PM, flights booked to barely requalify PM. Have a DL Plat Amex and will hit the $25,000 threshold this month (will push me to ~85,000 MQM).

Tier 2.

I'm sitting at 56K MQM. I've received the $595/$895/$1195/$1495 offer, which I will ignore. I've flown my last flight for the year.

I think DL is going to be leaving a lot of cash/sammiches on the table with this one.

Thank god I have already qualified for DM for 2014 and will have about 75000 rollover too. Those prices are not cheap.

another data point:

Currently a DM, sitting @ 122.8K MQM for next year. I was offered the "high" prices.

I'll stick with my $200 MR next Monday night to requal for DM (DFW-ATL-SMF-ATL-DFW) rather than shell out another $600 for the privelage of not flying and not earning the RDM.
