http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4134/...530d7243bd.jpg __________________________________________________ _________ Welcome to the new official thread of The 2010 Second Annual Delta Air Lines FlyerTalk Event in Atlanta, Georgia! Thursday, October 21 through Sunday, October 24, 2010 Registration for the event and for dinner on all three nights is now closed — and there will be NO EXCEPTIONS! Let us get right down to the important information, although please note that all information in this thread is subject to change:
Here is a link to the official weblog of the Delta Air Lines FlyerTalk event. Here is the link to all information, photographs and threads regarding the event last year. Here is the original Delta 2010 DO Update thread for the 2010 event, since locked. Please watch this space for additional links and information. While exceeding the incredible success of the event last year will prove to be difficult, we believe it will happen — with your help, of course! Thank you for your patience. Regards, Canarsie, atldlff and the rest of your event team of volunteers. |
Dates and Times
October 21-24, 2010
The event will be at least four complete days this year from Thursday through Sunday, unlike last year when the event was technically fewer than three days. We say “at least four complete days” because we may add additional days to either end of this event as needed. Dates and times of the venues are still yet to be determined and will be announced soon, but the confirmed venues as of now are: Thursday, October 21, 2010
Friday, October 22, 2010 Operations Day — Still unconfirmed at this time
Saturday, October 23, 2010
Sunday, October 24, 2010
As of this time, we are still working on the details of which remaining venues and activities will occur and on specifically which days, but although no one is required to attend all four days and can pick and choose the events they wish to attend, plan for a full four days of activity if you want to take full and complete advantage of this event, meaning starting in the morning on Thursday, October 21. These dates were chosen for a variety of reasons, mostly based on constructive input from potential attendees for the event this year. As much as we would like to do so, we know we cannot please everybody, but these dates should work for the majority of FlyerTalk members interested in attending this event. |
Registration
Saturday, July 3 at 12 Noon Eastern Daylight Time is when official registration for this event has begun, and not before then.
This date and time was chosen because it gave at least two weeks for FlyerTalk members to prepare in advance to register to attend the desired venues at the event. To be as fair as we can to everyone, previous lists were not be taken into consideration regarding priority to those who want to attend. We started fresh and clean with a brand-new list at www.atldo.com where — unlike last year — registrations and payments will be made electronically. Here is the registration link. Just to be sure we can properly set the expectations of everyone, here are some key points to review prior to beginning the registration process: Agenda and Schedule Please note all the agenda items that you are shown are simply placeholders at this point. The actual time and dates are subject to change and additional venues/events will be added as they are confirmed. Please make note of the password you choose for your account so that you can quickly log back in at a later time to add these other events. Wait List Once the event or a venue is full, the waitlist function will close registration and start taking e-mail addresses for notification of when a slot opens in the full event or venue. The system keeps an exact time stamp to the second of when a person joins a waitlist. Once a slot opens up, the system will send you an e-mail message and will hold your spot for 48 hours after the e-mail message is sent. You will need to follow the instructions in the e-mail message to complete your registration. Have a Question or Concern? If you have problems with your registration you can e-mail [email protected], use Yahoo Instant Messenger to chat with ATLDO_Wes or call our ATLDO hotline at (404) 910-3595. Please note that the registration hotline will only be turned on Saturday and then will be turned off until the event starts in October. If you call, please leave a voice mail message and someone will call you back as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns with the overall event, send a message to the following e-mail address: [email protected] E-Mail Filters Due to issues outside of our control, please check your spam box if you do not get an e-mail message confirmation within 30 minutes of completing your registration. We have noticed this problem on Yahoo accounts including BellSouth webmail. Your best bet is to add [email protected] to your safe senders list. |
Registration Fee
US$95.00 is the registration fee for the event this year, which is non-refundable.
This fee is necessary to cover costs associated with this event, including but not limited to:
VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, as well as PayPal, are acceptable forms of payment for the event this year. If you wish to book multiple people, please use the add a person feature after you have completed your registration. Unfortunately, we have no choice but to implement a non-refundable registration fee. There were a number of costs and outstanding expenses that were not covered last year due to a variety of reasons, including last-minute changes by a minimum of four FlyerTalk members who promised to attend but simply did not show up even though their slots were already covered financially, resulting in an out-of-pocket net loss of almost a thousand dollars. The registration fee is indeed transferable. All transfers or substitutions must be requested via e-mail at [email protected]. Transfer of the registration fee may be subject to a $5 fee that is out of our hands. We plan to announce a cut-off date in the future. |
Venues
All venues of the event last year will be repeated this year, plus a few additional venues which we are not yet prepared to reveal and some surprises we are in the process of concocting.
Each venue will have a limit of 100 FlyerTalk members, not including any volunteers or special guests, although we are currently working with the different departments of Delta Air Lines on increasing the limit while still keeping their respective venue manageable. This means that, with 145 FlyerTalk members announcing their intent to attend the event this year and not everyone attending every venue, there is a good chance that each person will be able to attend the venues of their choice. For some venues, the group of 100 FlyerTalk members will be split into smaller groups to attend at different times and perhaps even on different days to maintain the intimate experience of the venues as experienced last year. Dates and times of the venues are still yet to be determined and will be announced soon, but the confirmed venues as of now are: Thursday, October 21, 2010
Friday, October 22, 2010 Operations Day
Saturday, October 23, 2010
Sunday, October 24, 2010
Not scheduled as of yet Atlanta Airport Fire Stations — We will get to a chance to visit with the on-site emergency crews at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and see how they are prepared to handle emergency situations. Because we have a large group, we will be splitting up into smaller groups visiting either Fire Station #33 or Fire Station #40. Other surprises atldlff and Canarsie are busy cooking up and hoping to come to fruition |
Meals
Lunch and dinner on Thursday, October 21 will both be sponsored by Delta Air Lines.
Additionally, we are hoping to have at least two sponsored dinners occur on Friday and Saturday evening, October 22 and 23, at no cost to registered attendees whose account is in good standing, with the possibility of additional sponsored meals to be added. Please click here on registering for the complementary dinner events. We expect one dinner to be at Prime at Lenox Mall again this year, and the other dinner may be at a swimmingly but rather fishy place to eat — hint, hint… It is now official as of September 29, 2010: Thursday, October 21, 2010 The Piedmont Room At Park Tavern in Piedmont Park 500 10th Street Northeast Atlanta, Georgia 30309 404-249-0001 Cocktails and Appetizers 6:00 — 7:00 in the evening Dinner 7:00 — 10:00 in the evening Sponsor: Delta Air Lines. It is now official as of September 24, 2010: Friday, October 22, 2010 Prime 3393 Peachtree Road Northeast Atlanta, Georgia 30326 404-812-0555 Cocktails and Appetizers 6:00 — 7:00 in the evening Dinner 7:00 — 10:00 in the evening Sponsor: Delta Air Lines, on behalf of American Express. Prime, located in Lenox Mall, is a steakhouse which also offers such items seafood, salads and sushi — and one cannot go wrong with the menu choices. In recent years, Prime has grown to become a favorite amongst FlyerTalk members, and its popularity continues to grow. Due to the number of attendees dining at Prime, the restaurant will be closed for our event. The menu this year will be similar to the one last year, except that there is expected to be a dessert table filled with assorted desserts to which you may help yourself, rather than a choice of three desserts which were served the wait staff at your table. We hope nobody is disappointed about the part of having more choices for dessert... Saturday, October 23, 2010 Georgia Aquarium 225 Baker Street Atlanta, Georgia 30313 404-581-4126 Aquarium Admission 5:00 — 7:00 in the evening Dinner Reception with Reception Stations 6:00 — 10:00 in the evening Sponsor: Delta Air Lines, on behalf of SunTrust. The Georgia Aquarium is the “swimmingly but rather fishy place to eat” with which we hinted, and will be closed for our event as a private party, although there will be another private party simultaneously occurring. Attendees will have two hours to roam and explore the entire aquarium, abounding with marine life with which you just might be making new friends. Afterwards, dinner by Wolfgang Puck catering will be available at the reception stations with a variety of food, including beef, chicken, vegetables and assorted pastas — not just seafood. In addition, a light continental breakfast and a buffet deli lunch are included in the cost of each Road Warrior Training event. |
Costs and Service Fees
US$150.00 for each of the two Road Warrior Training venues, with no increase in cost from last year. This is a 50% discount off of the full price of Road Warrior Training, and the training was customized for FlyerTalk members for the event last year.
All other venues are complimentary to every registered attendee whose account is in good standing. In addition to the already mentioned non-refundable registration fee of $95.00 per person, and the Delta Air Lines Road Warrior Training (Level 1 or Level 2) of $150.00, there are some service fees asssociated with using an automated event registration system that is handling event and venue scheduling as well as credit card processing. The service charge for using this service will vary depending on which paid events you take part in. The service fees will be as follows:
While donations to the Delta Heritage Museum and a charity of the choice of Delta Air Lines are recommended, you are not required to make a donation to attend this event. |
Official Lodging
Hilton Atlanta Airport
1031 Virginia Avenue Atlanta, Georgia 30354 404-767-9000 Please click here to reserve a room at the special event rate. Here is general information about Hilton Atlanta Airport. A special room rate of US$79.00 is being offered to attendees of the event and — unlike last year, when the cost of Internet access was 50% off — this year, Internet access is complimentary. For those attendees who are Hilton HHonors members, you may choose a free MyWay benefit other than Internet access, which you will receive. For those of you who are Diamond and Gold Hilton HHonors VIP members:

The Hilton confirms they will give lounge access to their registered guests who are HHonors Gold members. (That's actually the normal policy at this Hilton.) I will ask HHonors Gold members staying at the Atlanta Airport Hilton to PM me a week or so before the event, and I will provide that list to the Hilton. That will make doubly sure you get lounge access as an HH Gold member.
I have confirmed that their lounge is now open regular hours over the weekend. Last year it was closed over the weekend with changed hours due to the economy. This year it is back to regular hours. Where you have questions/concerns about the Hilton, I'll help. My first priority request was to get free Internet, which they graciously agreed to. Our contract is signed, but I can still follow up on questions/concerns. The Hilton is doing a lot to help us out, so we ask that you give consideration to staying with them for this event. Thank you, David H. A block of rooms have been reserved for October 20, 2010 - October 25, 2010. Please note that the special room rate for this event will be available until September 29 or until the group block is sold-out, whichever comes first. |
Official List of Registered Attendees
The official list of attendees is maintained at the Official Internet Web Site of The 2010 Second Annual Delta Air Lines FlyerTalk Event in Atlanta, Georgia. As of now, guests have not been included yet. Do you see anyone on this list with whom you would like to be grouped? I wrote “grouped,” not “groped,” Dovster. Functionality to be included at the Official Internet Web Site of The 2010 Second Annual Delta Air Lines FlyerTalk Event in Atlanta, Georgia is the ability to choose the venues you want to attend. This will help make it possible for more Delta forum FlyerTalk members to attend and enjoy this event, as not everyone who attends this event is going to want to participate in all of the venues. At the event last year, not everybody attended all of the venues on all three days. For example, there were some FlyerTalk members who only wanted to attend the Road Warrior Training. Other FlyerTalk members only showed up for the first day or the first couple of days. If you are registered but did not submit your FlyerTalk name, please let me know and I will add you to this list. In fact, please alert me of any corrections which need to be made to this list. Thank you. |
2010 Event Volunteer Team
You will be pleased to know that your volunteer team from the 2009 event remains intact for the 2010 event, with the addition of at least ten more volunteers.

Welcome on-board
First, a big thank you to Canarsie for his hard work in putting together the format and announcement for this year’s event.
We have assembled together an incredible team of FlyerTalk volunteers to help plan and manage this year’s event. One of the big changes you will notice is the utilization of new technology lead by WesNSpace. He along with several volunteers have been working for weeks behind the scenes planning, implementing and testing the web-site, registration tool and some technologies that will help us provide an even better experience for those that will be attending this year. The great staff at Delta that provided the support to our event last year has mentioned several times how much they are anxiously looking forward to having us back again this year. For those that attended this event last year, we are making some changes to the format and content of many of the venues that we think you will find interesting. For those of you who will be attending this event for the first time, I believe that you will find this to be a very unique, informative and fun experience with an incredible “behind-the-scenes” look at Delta that is not available anywhere else. On behalf of the entire planning team, we look forward to welcoming you on-board for this year’s event. As always, more details to come… Stay tuned! :) |

Hope you have enough server capacity at http://www.atldo.com/ to prepare for the rush. At the moment I suspect a couple hundred FT'ers are sitting and hitting the reload button on their browsers, waiting for it to go live.
