Still doesn't explain why some of the old ones still work while others next to them are bugged or not working. Recently I went to a CVS with the old terminals and it worked perfectly and the cashier mentioned they replaced something and if they hadn't I'd be trying to get it to work for a while.
I was a bit early the other day, as it appears that they've now turned it off.

I wonder if they turned Missoula off first for some reason, because the girl seemed to think that it should work.

Is contactless an invitation to identity theft since minimal effort may be required to get the card # and expiration date without the card holder being aware?

Worth consideration ...

Also, supposedly MCX retailers have a three year exclusivity agreement with them, with most signing up in 2012. That means 2015 is probably the first opportunity to abandon CurrentC. Who will be the first to do so?

I'm on business travel in Australia at the moment. NFC readers are fairly common, super rough estimate 1 in two vendors in down town Melbourne have one.

Upgraded iOS this morning, added chase United card.. Grabbed a pre-lunch beer next door to the hotel (holy crud on a stick beer is expensive here!).. Asked if I could try it out..

Worked like a charm.. Held phone close to reader and the graphic showing the credit card appeared on the screen.. Thumb on print reader and BOOM! Beer paid for, no need for signature..

I'm in love. Just hoping the POS equipment becomes more widespread in Australia.

Well today I needed to do four CC transactions in Melbourne. Three were done with the Phone! NONE (done with the phone) required signature. Very very very easy and intuitive on the phone.. I hope to see more NFC readers in the US..

I believe the Apple Pay implementation do not send out any of those info unless Touch ID have been entered. So in that regard, Apple Pay is better than a contactless credit card.

Does CurrentC require contactless to be turned on to work?

Or is it only using the QR codes, no NFC?

So the MCX retailers never have to turn on contactless if they just want to support CurrentC?

Correct, only QR codes. They shot themselves in the foot though; for a group of companies that represents a quarter of retail spending they could have hurt Visa/MC (their primary goal) without the PR hit by playing the long game. Just institute a minimum for credit/debit card and NFC use and slowly increase it to the maximum allowed under Dodd-Frank. That change in customer behavior would stick beyond just the MCX members and other businesses might mirror them by instituting minimums as well. Customers still might not use CurrentC but fewer people will use cards, which Visa/MC would notice.

Supposedly CurrentC is getting bad reviews on the App Store and Google Play store.

You can read some of the reviews, but Apple doesn't seem to make many available except in iTunes:

Here's hoping V/MC/AX mandate NFC acceptance or something.

I can't think of many systems as poorly thought out as CurrentC. Except maybe Softcard/ISIS.

As many Walmarts are getting MX915's with nfc completely enabled, of course contactless will work maybe for a bit, but I'm sure they then soon disable it. http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost...3&postcount=87 someones experience with those terminals at Wal-Mart, here is the full thread: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1806003
Also that last time I went to Costco they had the MX915 terminals: http://forums.macrumors.com/attachme...1&d=1414029709 but I didn't think it would work as they had them for like 6 months.

Costco also only supports Amex and they didn't have anything contactless supporting until now. Maybe it'll work with those?
