May I suggest the Justice and Police Museum as well on Wed the 27th? It's just down the road from the Museum of Sydney.

http://www.hht.net.au/museums/justice_and_police_museum

Entrance is $8 for adults.

Personally, I found this more interesting than the Museum of Sydney (maybe I'm just evil). The J&P Museum is based on an old police station and court house, and contains many photos and 'instruments of crime'.

I did both museums in one day earlier this month. After those, it's an easy walk to the other side of Circular Quay to the MCA.

On the 29th, have you considered the Aquarium and the Wildlife Centre? They're on the other side of Darling Harbour from the Maritime Museum. They're a bit of a tourist trap, but I think the Aquarium is quite interesting, and it currently houses the Dugongs, which apparently are 2 of the only 5 in captivity in the world.

Having said that, the Aquarium, the Wildlife Centre and the Sydney Tower have a combo ticket that can represent some savings.

Lastly, when you land into the International Terminal, pick up a couple of the blue booklets that you should see when you walk towards Immigration. These booklets have coupons for various attractions. They're also available from the Tourist Information Centres.

I personally think the Art Gallery of NSW is one of the best attractions in Sydney and is better than the MCA, also free.

For food, when you're in the Rocks, give Pancakes on the Rocks a try and definitely when you're in china town try out some Yum Cha.

Yes, good point about the Art Gallery, it's quite good indeed and better than the MCA, IMHO. The Art Gallery also requires a bit more time too, and it's also near the domain and has some very scenic walks nearby.

There's also a market during the weekend in the Rocks, which I prefer over Paddy's, but that's maybe just a personal preference. Lots of interesting eateries in the Rocks too.

I'd love to join you, but I'll be out of the country at that time...

boxo, put me down for a weekday meeting in Sydney. Hopefully along the lines of one below. Your post above is referring to Sydney; why not put out feelers for AKL, too?

Just a suggestion or two for Sydney:
If anyone is interested in an amazing view, good drinks, excellent service and even better ccompany , I'd suggest a 5PM rendezvous at the Shangri La's Blu Horizon bar.
I know I always suggest this, but it's a lovely place with an excellent view of two or three parts of Sydney Harbour and takes in the Harbour Bridge and lots more.

Last time, we even saw the red carpets, flashbulbs and searchlights of JJ Abram's world premiere of the Star Trek movie. He did it in Sydney for the location, too.

OTOH, if Downunder Girl is offfering to host something at a cafe or restaurant at Manly Beach or Manly Wharf, I think you should try that. The locals are fiercely proud of their area and it's a bit of beachside privelege that's every easily accessible for visitors.

I suggest Wednesday night for an early drink around 5.15PM at the Shangri La top floor bar, mentioned above. The other evenings look too busy.

Friday at the night markets at Chinatown is a very good idea. Lots to do afterwards, for anyone in the mood.

I think we could hang around til seven.
I'll keep my phone not silent so I don't miss your call or txt.

To everyone who may be looking for a group of FTers:
Aside from incessant mention of airports, hotels and MILES , you should see a flouro yellow (or faded yellow) FlyerTalk tag on the table, to mark the crazy people.

Of course, we would endeavour to have the very best spot in the place.
We usually have a span of ages and genders in our groups.
Plus an eclectic drink selection.

+1 on interest, probably for Chinatown on Friday 29MAY. I'll be around from 29MAY through 01JUN at the Mercure, so I'm up for whatever.
