Horse & Bourbon Do III - April 5-7, 2013
ok, so we all are still not sure what H&B Do this is, perhaps V but hey we are trying to count while enjoying a bit of bourbon, it can be challenging.
we hope y'all with come out and enjoy the races at BEAUTIFUL Keeneland track & you can count on at least one distillery tour.
This Do is planned for April 5-7, which is opening weekend at Keeneland.
To give someone an idea of what goes on at this Do (get-together), in the past we normally take a day to visit a farm or two, a day is for visiting a distillery or two, see a Lexington sight or two, lunch/dinners, and of course an afternoon is spent at the races.
I've already made my reservations at the 2,000 point per night 4 Points Lexington.
So who's interested?

Itinerary for the weekend is shaping up:
Friday:
Afternoon 3 Chimneys horse farm tour (see Mile Ho's post #121, if interested, one needs to purchse tickets)
Dinner: TBD
Drinks: Beer Trappe
Saturday:
6 am at Keeneland to visit with a famous horse trainer and watch their barn in action. We'll see real live training and how the backside at the track works. If you love horse racing and have never seen this - I know it's early - but you'll want to be at this. (I'm still working out the details, so this is a bit tentative).
8 am we'll have breakfast at the Keeneland track kitchen. We'll most likely see some of the best and most famous trainers in the world there. Good food, too.
9 am We'll tour Glendridge Mare Farm. They work with mares and babies and we'll see plenty of both. I have a mare there who is in foal and could give birth while we in Lexington. If she does foal - no matter what time day or night - I will go there. Anyone who would like to see a foal being born can come along.
Noon - we'll turn it over to Sweet Willie for the Bourbon Tours.
Bourbon Tours TBD
Lunch
evening reception at toomanybook's parents place, dinner there probably as well I've got some delicious items I'll bring
Sunday:
Brunch at Stella's
Races in afternoon

I'm certainly going. I'll work on getting us in for a few Stallion and Mare farms for our visit.
Hopefully, we'll see some of the great equine stars of the racing industry, up close and in person. We might even see a baby born.
Last year, Iris30 got to play with a very, very famous stallion's tongue.
Huh? Yes she did.

I have a conflict for April 14, so I cannot go. Have spoken to Willie about it.
I certainly don't expect everything to revolve around me, but if a considerable number of other people are in the same boat, perhaps we could consider moving the date.
It is fun watching the Bluegrass Stakes, with some of the top Derby contenders, but last year Keeneland was very crowded that day: all time high attendance of 42,000 or something. I found the crowds unpleasant, but YMMV.
This short video gives an idea of what it was like in the paddock area:

Anyone else have a conflict?

Horse, bourbon and DONUT do?
I just sent a PM to a few of the Keeneland DO "regulars." Work schedule permitting I will be in for any April weekend we pick.
Just to add a new twist check this out - we may need to broaden our horizons and add the KY Doughnut Trail (mmmmmmmm, donut) to our travels around the Bluegrass region.
