If it makes you feel better, I missed the 30k target of current BankComm in Phase 1 on my VISA by around 300 HKD (1 transaction short!) because I had forgotten that only transactions above 400 HKD will count towards the 30k requirement. So I spent quite a lot over 30k that month on the card, and all of it earned at a horrible earn rate...

Wishful thinking, I'm sure, but I would love to see the earn rate on a per transaction basis (like Chase is now doing - that's how I figured out some of my transactions that I thought were dining, weren't.)

I recently put an overseas hotel transaction on my BEA during one of those holiday weekend promotions and I'm basically crossing my fingers that it works right.

Damnit, had no idea (or had complete forgot about) the HKD400+ per transaction requirement.

How did you confirm that you had not made the spending minimum? Is this based on your own transaction record DD, or you confirmed with CS? I think I made it based on my own record, but wondering if I should separately confirm with CS

Being relatively new to points/miles game, I do feel like it is much more of a black box in HK than, say, the US. Points don't get awarded until a few months later most of the time for bonus offers, making it hard to track, and even the ongoing earns are not always clear (e.g., HSBC). I had a similar earning fail experience on not properly applying for an HSBC VS card (posted in the welcome offers thread), meaning I missed out on the Welcome offer without even knowing it (and to make matters worse, I already spent on that card assuming I had it). Maybe we should start a separate thread with the worst fails to reassure/remind each other...

Lol, no problem.

I just spent HKD32k on one spend today, so I think I'm covered for this cycle now.

You could ask CS
But even that is not authoritative because ultimately it's what gets billed that matters

Example
You may incur a 14/5 $30,000 charge before midnight. CS can see the charge says you're ok
The merchant then somehow dates the transaction on 15/5 and Bankcomm marketing dept (a dept you can't directly contact) disqualifies you from phase 2 points.

Does SCB award Asia Miles on AAVS reloads? I added my Octopus for a $500 AAVS reload to my SCB Card and the counter staff informed me that no miles are awarded on Octopus reloads or OEPay transactions.

Any idea if this is true? If so I might switch to Citi. Thx

If you mean SCB AsiaMiles WorldMaster then the wiki says yes at 1 AM per $6, and the master of the Wiki (percysmith) is almost never wrong! I'd certainly trust him over random SCB counter staff.

The T&Cs seem to confirm this (by the absence of AAVS in the exclusions).

And as an aside I notice that their definition of "Overseas transaction" (for $4=1AM) is simply "Transactions posted to the Card account in a currency other than Hong Kong Dollars." I can see situations in which that might be quite handy (years ago when Citi had such a definition I got rather large numbers of miles on some USD payments made in HK).

Not infallible, like some other posters think themselves are (not here). But I still 2,583 miles off 15.5K recharges from last statement.

Ooops, sorry! I misremembered that (getting old). The gift from Citi was HKD outside HK being overseas. I got thousands of miles each month through an HKD investment in the Isle of Man for quite a while before they cottoned on.

@percysmith - sorry to be disorganised, but my HSBC VS just got credited with 800RC today; can you remind me what I did to deserve that?
