With these kind of draws just assume it's gonna be 3%. We always joke only Nigel Chu (the Citi manager nominally answering everyone's emails, replaced a year ago by Queen Zeng) gets 15%.

Since Citi points don't expire I'm waiting for a bigger promo.

I travel to China a lot and I understand the best card to use for hotel stay is CX Amex and Citi Premiermiles for Asia miles accrual. Now somehow I feel these cards RMB-HKD exchange rates are not that fantastic.

Now what credit cards do you use most of the time for your hotel stay in China?

Have you considered getting a dual currency and settling RMB directly?

Bankcomm still good for RMB6/mile for purchases >=RMB300.

You only need V/M/Amex for deposit.

Yup, 3% on my end too.

On the Prestige card, I will need to think about it more as the accrual rates are not as good. I have the BEA card for local and HSBC VS for dining (since I spend a fair bit on that category). Need a good card for overseas; have the Premiermiles so wondering if I can get anything better than that (have quite a substantial offshore spend but not as much as dining).

Fubon. $3/mile overseas, $1.5/mile for Japan/Korea (tho we don't know whether that'll get extended on 29/2/16), $0.6/mile Taiwan (first $10K per year only sadly)

Oh. Saw the substantial bit. The $3/mile earn rate is limited to 75% of your credit limit every month. So if it's a lot then you may go over.

OH NO!

I got the Citi Prestige many months ago but did not realize there's the relationship bonus ... I thought the Citi Prestige was only good for the 20K miles offered when I signed up.

I have signed around HK$500k on my Citi Premiermiles since getting the Citi Prestige! Sob sob sob

How many handbags in T3 ;-)?

I managed to get away with just one, the missus barely ticking over $20K...the $11.8/GBP put her off.

You really like your brands don't you.

I always charged the Prestige if I needed to do HKD spending on the Citi but I didn't appreciate the difference between Prestige and Premiermiles for overseas spend til you mentioned it.

Oh well your max loss (I don't know you've at least 10 years with Citi or whether you're Citigold) is 500,000 x 0.3 / 12 = 12,500 miles...even less if you're less than 10 years with Citi and/or not Citigold.

Wait ...

1. What is the difference between Prestige and Premiermiles for overseas spend?

2. So does that basically mean I can just put away my Premiermiles and use my Prestige exclusively, whether local or overseas?

At least for a HK-issued Unionpay you can't take a preauth on an Unionpay (hotels, car rental companies etc) AFAIK

No difference for overseas spend, except that your overseas spend on Prestige will count for relationship bonus.

Yes I would put away the Premiermiles.

The only thing that the Premiermiles might be good for is that from my quick glance, the travel insurance coverage for delayed baggage is better.

Premiermiles sometimes have overseas earn promos such as Citi Premiermiles up to $2.15/mile 1 Nov 15-31 Jan 16 that beat Prestige even with relationship bonus.

But I generally won't use Citi overseas anyway.

P.S. Psychiatrist - didn't you enjoy the $2.15/mile offer?

Percysmith, thanks for the info. I think I will go for the Prestige card after all as I have a long relationship with Citi (confirmed over 10 years and Citigold) so it would be the easiest for me. By this I mean that as I work for my own company, my salary is relatively small so getting a good credit limit from, and the application itself to, Fubon would not be easy. With Citi, they have a good idea of my credit record and I have a relationship manager to help sort out all the paperwork and make sure the card goes through smoothly. As my spending amounts are high for overseas, I think it will work out well. For the past 2 months, have used the 2.15 pm offer so not so bad for the premier miles.

Psychiatrist, sorry to hear about the missed spending on Prestige. Have you been with the card for more than a year? Would you pay the renewal fee? Would appreciate some feedback on how the card is.

Thanks everyone.
