Verify credit card at check in

Sorry to have to post a new thread on this. I'm just not sure what the answer is, having searched through previous messages.

Bought a KA ticket on KA's website. Was obviously given the message that my credit card needed to be verified. (It did not go through Verify by Visa or Verify by Mastercard.) Passed by Airport Express station the other day and went to the CX counter by the side outside the check in area. They said that they cannot verify credit card for a KA ticket. Suggested that I either verify at their ticketing office at Gateway or at the airport / Airport Express check in counter when I check in. (I'm trying to NOT bring this specific credit card on my trip so trying to work around showing it at check in. Going to the ticketing office is not too convenient either for me.)

If I print my boarding pass online, will my boarding pass be flagged as it is scanned at the gate, alerting the gate agent to check my credit card ?

You either have to show the card or you won't be allowed to fly.

Only way is to verify which means you still have to show the credit card you used to purchase this ticket to KA ticketing staff.

1. Go to Gateway and get it sorted out
2. Go for intown check-in at T-24 and leave your card at home
3. Check if they will accept a photocopy of your card (worked for me once but do check beforehand!!!)
4. Take your card with you (what you don't want to)

I don't understand how going through the hassle of getting your card verified before you travel is a better solution than just carrying the card with you when you travel

I wonder if they really check the credit card nowadays. I have not been asked to show it for many years now.

If you went thru Verify y Visa or Secure by MasterCard, And the one by Amex which I don't know the name of, then no. But if it specifically asks you to show your card, then yes.

In OP's case, it did.

Are there instances where cards can't be verify? I thought it pretty much covers 99% of cards out there, Visa, MC, and AMEX... I guess OP used Discover?

Verify credit card at check in

I find it's hit or miss with some cards/merchants (although can speak for CX since I haven't booked directly with them for a while). Anyway, I find the online verification to be a bit of a joke, since with my hk HSBC MasterCard it only ever asks for "security" details such as hkid and birthday that any competent identity thief/fraudster would know already anyway.

Many airlines have done away with this practice entirely. For example, United Airlines never needs you to show CC at check in.

Verify Visa, Secure MasterCard etc are only enabled if the card holder opts in, they are not switched on by default, at least that is how it works in the UK.

USA is already known to be the most gullible nation in the world when it comes to CC security, and that is why CC fraud in the USA has increased 400% since 2010, it is ridiculous. Many East Asian friends of mine can't believe it when they see me swipe my US-based CC and don't have to type in a PIN number right there on the spot to the merchant, and that I trust them enough to add any amount later on to the tip. Granted these are 5-star establishments, but they still find the whole concept of "no PIN on the spot" ridiculously lax, and say they would never use a CC that doesn't have that "layer of security."

So I can see the need for additional layer of security in East Asia, but wonder why the whole process can't be taken care of online with a few additional simple scripts.
