0 Points
(115.44) AED

on my Dubai reservation.

I've not been charged any taxes on full points redemptions before, sometimes get it quoted on points+cash. I heard Dubai had started a new tourist tax, perhaps they apply that even to reward reservations?

Actually just spotted the last few posts on the http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/carls...e-paris-2.html thread seem to be talking about errors with taxes posting to bookings that shouldn't be there, so might related!

The new tourist tax IS A COMPULSORY TAX to be paid by all hotel guests ,whether award/paid nights AND IT AMOUNTS TO ONLY 15-20 aed/night/room.

Yes - see my subsequent post, seems to be a more general website issue from some of the comments I've seen in other threads...

Not sure about Dubai but the few properties I stayed at in Europe had a flat tourist tax (~3 Euros) which was charged on reward night bookings too.

I have redeemed free nights at Radisson NYC and no tax to be paid
so probably no tax to be paid in North America

but my future stay at Radisson Blu Milan in Italy has $10 Euros per person tax on the reservation... very confusing

I never had to pay any tax component till date on any of the award nights booked in Club Carlson hotels.
So i presume, room tax is included in reward nights, until goverment of a particular country runs some taxes which are to be paid/borne by the customer irrespective of it being a paid/award stay

I stayed at 6 different Club Carlson properties in Europe over the Xmas holiday, 3 of which are now part of the new category 7. All stays were on points - taking advantage of the 2nd night free with CC - and I was not charged any fees or taxes for my stays.

Some Carlson properties in neighboring India charge way more than that as taxes on award nights?

I have to see what happened to Radisson DEL award bookings, but I do recall they made a stink about the "included" hotel transfer (to/from the airport) and wanted to charge for the transfers on award stays but not on regular paid stays; I don't recall what they did about taxes on those award bookings. Anyone here aware of what the current practice is for taxes on award stays there?

You normaly never have to pay ROOM tax.
City tax, tourist tax or any other government related tax is a different story.
This is not part of the room, and therefore needs to be paid by the customer.

the differentiator is not whether it's called a room tax, city tax or resort fee, nor whether the hotel is located in europe or north america, but whether it's a percentage of the room rate or a flat cash amount.

on award nights, any percentage of the room rate is zero, therefore no percentage tax applies. on the other hand, any tax applied as a flat cash amount or on the number of stars (i think the latter is the case in milan) does not depend on the room rate, therefore the tax must be paid by the guest.
