Tesco and Avios

Tesco, the major UK supermarket chain, allows you to convert Tesco Clubcard (CC) points to Avios. The standard earning rate is 1 CC point per £1 spent in store. They convert to Avios in the ratio of 1 CC point to 2.4 Avios or 2.5 Virgin miles.

Every quarter, your points are converted to coupons and mailed to you - they can then be converted via the CC website to Avios or Virgin miles. Typically, it takes 1-2 working days for a conversion to BA Avios to complete.

The key to rapidly earning large amounts of Avios is the regular bonus point offers where large amounts of points can be earned. The latest are listed below and discussed within this thread.

The last period for collecting Clubcard points finished on 22 October 2015.

The last day for collecting points in the current quarter is 28 January 2016.

TopCashback (TCB)

TCB is a cashback generating site that pays your for shopping at a wide range of online retailers via their links. Uniquely amongst such sites, TCB allows up to £50 of cashback per year to be withdrawn to your Tesco Clubcard account which could then be transferred to 12,000 Avios.

Additional cashback above £50 can be transferred directly to your Avios account at rate of 1p = 1.05 Avios although this is not a great deal.

I'm sure anyone posting here would understand! I've found that Ticketmaster Gift Cards can be combined with the 25% cash-back NatWest Black / RBS Royalties (?) deal - feel a few theatre trips coming our way

You're embarrassed for people to know you paid for the meal with gift cards!? Discount coupons I can vaguely understand, but gift cards...

Surely it's more embarrassing to be taking someone to a GK pub for a meal in the first instance

The way to go is an email to [email protected] complaining about missing points and not helpful staff in the shop. You'll get your missing points, appology for the " lack of clarity from the staff" and another 250 points as a goodwill gesture. [/QUOTE]

Which also invites customer services to have a good look at your CC account, not a good idea for the serious 3V or Visa collector. Better to sort out in store.

You'd think... I really don't understand the whole "keeping appearances" thing going on though! I have a friend who got a Vanquis credit card when she had no credit history, but was too embarrassed to use it in shops in case someone saw she was with a sub-prime lender!

800* extra points on £60 wine spend (on line) code: XXNGHM, expires 18/01.

* I have just used it and it gave me 926 extra points plus the 63 for the wine.

Thanks for the code!

There's a triple points all on wine spend offer on: "Triple Clubcard points will automatically be added when you place items in your basket. Triple Clubcard points valid on orders placed before midnight on Sunday 18th January 2015."

Me too - of both wine and Avios

I make it 240 Avios/bottle based on 68 base CC points, and 937 bonus CC points, 142 CC points via TCB and 132 MR points for paying with the Gold.

Thanks for the heads up, Alinlondon!

You've clearly never been to a Toby Inn for their carvery lunch. There are no less than 4 flavours of gravy and you can have all of them smothering your food and then go back for more as many times as you like so you end up drinking it with a spoon like a gourmet soup. Proper grub that.

I'm drooling just thinking about them as I type.

I don't think the problem was anything other than an isolated incident.

I can confirm as a reference point that on some B&Q gift cards purchased yesterday all points posted correctly (300 per £100).

Virtual Visa cards which you can buy at Tesco and several other retailers (if you can find them).

https://www.3vprepaid.com/self_service.html

The reason for the Tesco/BA Avios relevance is that bonus club card points are paid on these cards (see the wiki) and you can then use the cards to spend online and pay some bills. Tesco also take Amex which allows you to spend on your Amex to generate a Visa card for a retailer who doesn't allow payment by Amex.
