Be very careful buying travel stuff on ebay. Lounge passes, plane upgrades and such have been faked, stolen, or a honeytrap.

You are going to love Vietnam!

I have a couple of suggestions.

1) Don't spend all your time in Saigon. Go to Hanoi and/or Hoi An. Hanoi is among the great cities in the world and is very different from Saigon. I wouldn't want to miss it.

2) For travel within Vietnam, use Vietnam Airlines, rather than one of the budget airlines. It will be slightly more expensive, but still very affordable and is much more reliable. You have only two weeks and it would be a shame to lose a bunch of time to save a few $$. As I recall, tickets for SGN-DAD & DAD-HAN were ~$20 more to fly VN instead of VietJet or JetStar.

3) Look into booking a street food tour in Saigon with XO Tours. They aren't cheap ($75), but it was one of the best things we did during our entire time in Vietnam. It is a chance to see a huge chunk of Saigon from the back of a scooter and to eat some great street food.

2) also cant see seat selection on united 804 on 9/24 from nrt to iad @4pm?

anyone know if there are aisle seats left on either flight?
and why cant I see it?

edit:
nevermind.. I need to be logged in to see the seat availability.
only 2 aisle seats left on 9/24.
hopefully my visa gets approved soon!!!!!!!!!!

edit2:
visa approved!
but only because I checked the visa website.
they didn't send me an email.
4 days (including weekend) from when I applied.

wonder when it was actually approved?

You need your ANA confirmation number, which I think is listed on united.com after you pull up your booking. Then it looks like you can login to ANA's website with your confirmation number and pick your seats. If not, you just call ANA while looking at seatguru.com

ANA advance seat reservations with UA booking?

wow.. never knew that it's free checked bags for international flights.
just assumed it cost $ just like on domestic.

i was going to just use a 22" carry-on for my 11day trip.
now might go bigger and check it in

Always bring a few days clothes with you. No valuables/electronics in checked bags.

thx.
reserved my seats on ANA.

I picked aisle in the middle row where 2 of the other seats were occupied.
I'm hoping that they are a couple and the person in middle seat wont bother me when needing to get out

even though check bags are free, i'm still leaning on just using my 22" carry on because I don't want to wait on line to check in.
and wait for luggage after I land. (both going to and coming from Saigon)

I had an amazing stay at Le Meridian and can highly recommend staying there. The lounge view is amazing, no need to do the tower if you have status.
2 weeks is too much you should explore other places. Uber and Grab and the legit taxis are ok. Read the safety recommendations other have given, very valid.
I took cash from a bank atm close to hotel during the day and somehow 2 transactions were reported with more $ taken out. 2 days later 2nd was reversed. Always review your statements. Do not buy sim cards from any place that would not register the card. Ask your friend to help. in 2 weeks you can go souther ot move to the middle, plenty to do.

One more thing, mosquito repellent, VN has a dengue outbreak now, so this is a MUST.
