April 6 General Strike

update, the biggest unions continue to ratify that the general strike of April 6 will continue:

http://www.lanacion.com.ar/1998153-j...s-irreversible
http://www.clarin.com/politica/cta-c...Hk3enqpil.html

The various players have backed themselves into a corner, and the liklihood of the strike continuing has increased. Of course, as stated above, it could be cancelled.

The strike will mean almost everything will be shut down, including stores, larger offices, and transport.

The last time this happened, airlines like Latam and Aerolineas avoided notifying customers (only direct purchasers) until a few days before either to notify of flights scheduled for the day after the strike or to contact them to reorganize flights (chaos). Long-distance buses shut down the afternoon before, and did not start up again until later in the morning after. Some international flights landed and took off from EZE due to management pitching in, but do not count on it.

It would be wise to avoid travel to/from/within Argentina from the evening before until the morning after. Be prepared to be flexible.

More on the strike:

As of today, Aerolíneas Argentinas is offering to reschedule, and / or refund tickets bought for domestic travel in Argentina on April 6.

" ....Aerolíneas finalmente solicita a sus pasajeros con vuelos para esa fecha contactarse al call center o a los puntos de venta de Aerolíneas Argentinas para reprogramar su fecha de viaje y anuncia que el día 6 de abril la atención al público en el aeropuerto se verá restringida"

lanacion.com.ar/2001363-aerolineas-argentina…

(Finally, Aerolíneas requests its passengers with flights scheduled for this date to contact the call center or Aerolíneas Argentinas sales points in order to reschedule their travel date and warns that on April 6 their Clients Services at the airport will be restricted (minimal?).

From the armchair prospective, looking at the local TV Stations today between 11:00 am and 11:45 am. All looks quiet and orderly. Groups assembled in the streets seem to be quiet and peaceful.

Business as usual where I live although I think the schools were closed. Then again, that's nothing unusual given the teachers always seem to strike at this time of year.

You mean the time of year when school is in session?

BAires is just like Paris. No, not in the architecture or the coffee culture. In the amount of street protests and strike planning and strike surrounded drama.
Gotta love it.

When I was there in February, our guide said that protesting was the national sport.
