How about the Auto Train? Admittedly it is the same route as the Silver Star.

Hi -

Have you done the length of all the sleepers, or just a segment?

Amtrak Train - GCT to Detroit via Ontario

Did anyone ever ride this train? I can't recall its name.

It ran through the late 70's or so, departing both end points in the AM. I used to see it in GCT when I was commuting to NYC, but never had a chance to ride it, although I often thought of calling in sick and then buying a ticket. It was all coach, but carried a full diner, and the crew was getting ready to serve breakfast upon its imminent departure from GCT.

Two gaps, of several in my travels, have been Spokane to Portland and Albany to Boston. Have you ever ridden these segments?

I will be posting my AMTK travels shortly, I just want to make sure that I have
captured most if not all, in order to avoid multiple edits.

I haven't done either of those, no. I did the LSL CHI-NYP and the EB SEA-CHI.

I have travelled over every Amtrak route except:

AutoTrain
Galesburg, IL to Quincy, IL
Portland, ME to Brunswick, ME
Richmond, VA to Newport News, VA
Buffalo, NY to Toronto, ON

I've also travelled over a lot of Amtrak routes that no longer exist:

Salt Lake City to Los Angeles (Desert Wind)
Salt Lake City to Portland (The Pioneer)
Denver to Salt Lake City via southern Wyoming (The City of San Francisco)
Miami to New Orleans (The Sunset Limited)
Spokane to Seattle via the southern route through Yakima and Ellensberg
Rutland, VT to Montreal (The Montrealer)
Memphis to Jackson (Over the old IC mainline)

I spent 18 nights and 19500 miles on U.S. rails in 2015 - small potatoes compared to most of you but definitely a lot of fun. I'm heading out next week for another 9500 mile, nine night jaunt around the west. It's a great way to use up some of my Amtrak points before the coming devaluation.

FWIW, I go by track, not by named route (i.e. having ridden both Acela and Regional between NYP and WAS, I don't feel the need to ride every NYP-based long-distance train on the segment between NYP and WAS, nor do I feel compelled to ride the full length of every state-supported train that duplicates a long-distance route [I'm looking at you, Illinois]).

So, keeping that in mind, it's actually now (finally!) easier to list what track I have not covered in Amtrak's system. Here is my ever-shrinking list of stuff I still need to do (excluding currently ticketed trips):

Charlotte-Birmingham (Crescent)
Selma-Savannah (Silver Star)
Selma (or Cary*)-Greensboro (Carolinian, Piedmont)
Petersburg, VA-Norfolk (Regional)
Richmond (RVR)-Newport News (Regional)
New Haven-St. Albans (Vermonter)
Plattsburgh-Montreal (Adirondack)
Albany-Boston South (Lake Shore Limited, Boston section)
Whitehall, NY-Rutland (Ethan Allen Express)
Gary-Grand Rapids (Pere Marquette)
Gary-Port Huron (Blue Water)
Gary (or Battle Creek*)-Pontiac (Wolverine)
Galesburg-Quincy (Carl Sandburgh/Illinois Zephyr)
Galesburg-Kansas City (Southwest Chief)
Fort Worth-Oklahoma City (Heartland Flyer)
San Antonio-New Orleans (Sunset Limited)

*Duplicated by another route I haven't done

I did the California Zephyr/Pacific SurfLiner DEN/PDX last June in a Roomette.

In May, I'll do the Capitol Limited / Northeast Regional CHI/NRO. It was the same price to train it to NRO as NYP, and it's much closer to home. Slumming in coach.

You guys are a bad influence.
