Elite Qualifying Dollar Offset for
American Airlines AAdvantage Barclaycard Aviator cardholders through 2018.
American Airlines AAdvantage Barclaycard Aviator cardholders through 2018.
IMPORTANT NOTE Aviator Red won’t earn any EQD in 2019, Aviator Silver will only earn $3,000 EQD for a $50,000 spend as of 2019, according to Gary Leff, One Mile at a Time. If you hit the $50,000 spend in Dec it will be credited in January but credited towards the prior year, so it can push you over the line after Dec has ended.
See this FT thread for details.

That article says, in part
For 2019 the benefit is being eliminated entirely except for Aviator Silver cardholders who will 3000 elite qualifying dollars after $50,000 spend (instead of earning 6000).
Anyone who signed up for an Aviator Red Mastercard, or upgraded to an Aviator Silver, between January 1 and October 31, 2018 will keep the pre-existing elite qualifying dollars benefit for 2019, and their benefit will change January 1, 2020.
However anyone that paid the annual fee on a card in, say, June in expectation of using the benefit in 2019 is out of luck with the benefit, and out of luck with the fee.

how is customer service with the silver aviator, however? apparently it is "us-based" but there are still complaints...just don't know if these are substantiated. can you dispute unauthorized charges by phone or only via snail mail? does barclays put a fraud hold on the card every single time you use it overseas (even when you let them know you will travel ahead of time)?
i'm concerned about the customer service aspect with barclays and have seen way too many complaints.
if only citi offered an EQD option.

But I've had my Citi Executive card shut off around 18 times in the last two years for fraud alerts (~12 of them were within the first few months of opening the card... And no fraud occurred), and it hasn't happened yet with Barclay's at around $4,000 spend for the month so far. I'm still terrified to put my Citi cards in gas pumps because they are so trigger-happy with the fraud notices.

Granted, I've had the card for less than a month, and this was my very first time calling them, but I had an awful CSR with attitude who seemed disinterested in me or my request.

Here is what their help page says about disputing transactions:
I want to dispute a transaction on my account. What should I do?
Here are the recommended steps to initiate a dispute.
Step 1: Double Check your purchase
• If you do not recognize: In many cases we find the merchant name may look a little different or that the transaction was made by an authorized user. In some cases checking with an authorized; checking your receipt, or contacting the merchant can help
• Check your receipt and any documents you have to review the return policy; this information is helpful to send in with your dispute details.
Step 2: It is not required but it is recommended that you contact the merchant first to attempt to resolve. We often find this is a quick and easy way to resolve the issue.
Step 3: If you still need to dispute your purchase, please send details of your dispute and all supporting documentation to Card Services, Fax: 866-390-3437 or mail to P.O. Box 8802, Wilmington, DE 19899-8802. If this is not an option for you, call us at the number listed on the back of your card.
• In most cases, we must be notified within 60 days of the date in which the charge appeared on your billing statement.
• Once a case has been opened for you, it will be referred to a specialist who will review your case to make sure that we have everything necessary to request credit on your behalf. The specialist may contact you for additional information if needed. After we contact the merchant's bank, we may issue a provisional credit to your account. We will notify you of the outcome of the dispute once we have fully investigated your case and received
Step 4: Continue to make payments on your account. Finance charges are not assessed on the disputed portion of your balance during the investigation period. However, if the dispute is not resolved in your favor, the transaction will be subject to the terms and conditions of your Cardmember Agreement including any applicable finance charges and fees. You are not required to make a payment on the portion of your balance that is in dispute while the purchase is in dispute status.
Step 5: Generally, disputes are resolved quickly, but it may take several weeks depending on the complexity of the case. We will notify you once we have completed our investigation, and inform you of how your case was resolved.

Another plus to get the Barclay card is a European PIN. Was recently in Dublin and needed to buy the airport bus ticket from the Kiosk - no attendant. It needed a PIN and my Barclay card worked. Otherwise I would not have been able to buy the ticket from the kiosk and would have been delayed going the other terminal.
But when in a restaurant when there is a PIN capable hand held card swipe, it still defaults to signature. Not sure why.

Rolling Spend - EQD - Upgrade priority
Does any one know.... if you get 3000 EQD's, from using the Aviator Card..... does that count towards the 'rolling spend' calculation that AA will start using to prioritize the Airport upgrade list? thanks

There are only one kind of EQD; they could as EQD. AA does not have ALEQD and CCEQD, they're all the same for all purposes EQD count will apply for: currently, status, in the unspecified near future, upgrades.

AA has an arrangement to count them as EQD just like EQD when flying on partners is not based on actual dollars spent. I can't imagine aa creating multiple classes of EQDs, with some counting only for status eligibility and not for upgrade priority.
Also, if they don't count for upgrade priority, there's no reason for a high spending exp to also spend on the aviator card.
The new aa is not looking at loyalty - they're looking at $$. They've determined that there's some equivalence between spending 3000 on tickets and spending 25k on an aviator card.
