Better to match to Delta Gold or AA Platinum? Either way gets you MVPG? Thanks

I may request a match to 75k Gold... (am currently DL Diamond); if I want to the match to give 75k status through 12/31/2016, do I have to wait until October to request?

Seriously. It might just be me, but what's the point of status matching to 75K if 1.) you don't fly enough for the status so you're going to lose it, 2.) it's once in a lifetime*, and 3.) you only get it through Dec 31?

It seems wasteful.

*Yes, AS has been known to grant multiple status matches. Nice people work for Alaska, they're understanding. It's great they offer exceptions, but it's not something you can count on.

This match should never have been allowed and is totally against the reason for matches, but then again, isn't that what FT is primarily about (gaming the system to get the best travel experience)?

Sounds like AS does not have a way of checking actual flight miles on other airlines, and why would (should) they?

Technically, they could ask for a person's mileage statement with the other airlines. I just wish they would stop giving status matches to the 75K level. However, I was one of those who status matched from EXP to 75K. I did fly 30K EQM on AS so far with a lot of flights in M/H fare class..all personal travel.

Maybe a status challenge like AA/DL/UA all do would be nice. Grant at least MVPG status but give 75K status if they fly 30K EQM in 3 months or something. Even then DL and UA don't really give status matches to 1K/DM status. AA sometimes gives 1Ks and DMs status challenges to EXP if they fly 30K EQP or something.

👍 +1 I do agree that challenges are better, I was foolish and statusmatched at the wrong time to AS and burnt my only match with them while now if matched I could easily sustain MVP75k And exp as well as star gold but we learn from our mistakes

I like Alaska and their ffp program

By the way, Delta is NOT being as aggressive as everyone thinks with status matches. They are only offering Gold to MVP Gold 75Ks, which I thought was a shoe-in to Platinum.

:/

Looks like I'll hold on to MVP Gold and maintain Delta Gold Medallion in the future, as long as Alaska doesn't require I step foot on their airplane again (I'll be living in Tampa soon, and won't be required to travel to Hawai'i anymore, if at all).

I don't have a US Driving License... will they status match to an overseas address?

Doubt it since you don't live near an area they service.

Well of course. I think you missed the point of the post. There was no indication that Alaska would continue providing the opportunity to status match again into the next year (2016). Now they indicate that they will do so starting with those who status match beginning in October.
