Excuse my lack of knowledge, but are the overwing emergency exit slides usually removed from the exit like that?

AC flight 624 from Yyz crash landed at YHZ

There is a video on CBC of a passenger interview. It sounds like (unconfirmed) that the plane clipped a power line or power pole, hit the ground, bounced up and landed again. Very lucky this isn't a more serious incident. The airport is stating they aren't yet sure if the power outage is related to the incident.

Perhaps. But Air Canada's first tweet on the issue stated, in full:

Confirms AC624, YYZ-YHZ exited runway upon landing at Halifax. All passengers have deplaned, going to terminal. More updates to come.
Isn't that exactly how every single other Air Canada flight ended today, and most days?

I'm not certain I'd take any airline's statements as definitive in situations like this. Especially a "Prelim report."

Of course not. They double as life rafts if there were to be an over-water landing, so they most definitely have to be seperable from the aircraft. The picture appears to imply that the gear has collapsed, and the wing looks pretty mangled. Let's just say there's some incredibly lucky people in Halifax tonight!

Westjet flight is being diverted to moncton and pax will be bussed to halifax.
I'm unsure how many flights are currently airborne for halifax but I assume any that are will be sent to moncton as well

Shouldn't be much. There was a Cargojet 762 on flightaware from Gander that was supposed to come in, but that'll probably be delayed for a while. And a bizjet in-flight from Point-a-Pitre which will have to divert somewhere else.

I see a couple Transats from VRA and HOG both diverting to YUL. Looks like the redeye WS228 YYC-YHZ got cancelled before it even took off so that's good.

That Bizjet is actually a air ambulance of some sort from what I could gather.

Not my expertise, but the slide isn't connected to the exit - one exits onto the wing, and then uses the slide to slide off the wing. The biggest issue, of course, is that the slide is nearly horizontal, since the wing has no landing gear under it. See here for an inflation video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAMPcK_petY
The slide might be slightly off, but it seems close to design location. Note that in the video when inflated, the railing of the slide starts approximately 3 windows after of the aft over wing exit. Much like in the photo.

Looks like it could have ended a lot worse.

Hope everybody is ok.
