Well, sure ... if you're only going to count "useful payload" , and you've amortized the cost of the annoying overhead - you know, things like wings, landing gear, and the fuel itself ... the ratio would be a lot different, and I could easily imagine that being closer to 1:1

No, you just have to rest your palms on the trackpad for one half of the table to bend slightly towards you. It is fairly unstable, on brand new planes too. Give them a year or two and they will be a wobbly mess.

I wonder how many will be looking forward to experiencing Y after the 777s have been returned to service after the enhancements ( keeping in mind that FTers are not necessarily representative of the entire collection of pax)

"New Y" in AC or even ANA, TG are not something I can fly. Period.

What exactly is the difference between Air Canada and Ryan Air? I'm strictly talking about economy and not J or PY obviously. AC keeps cramming more and more seats into their planes. I simply don't see a big difference between the two airlines these days

AC pretends to be a world leading full service airline while using every opportunity to deceive their customers once they have bought Ito the pretty marketing slogans and photos.
I was extremely disappointed with the new Y configurations at ANA and lately TG.
Y is becoming unfliable for anyone over 180 cm tall and 80kg in weight. Perhaps the airlines are aiming to service only smaller size passengers.

Slim hope indeed.
If the cabin goes 777HD, those with allergies can rejoice as pet in cabin is not permitted.
If the cabin goes 788 style, pet in cabin permitted (please pay $100!).

By this time next year some of the 777s will have been refurbished. I wonder when this will start reflecting in the seat maps and inventory. No point in adding a PY cabin and only starting to sell it a few weeks before.

looking at the problems of AC with its PY cabin downgrades AC might be better not selling PY till all planes are converted.

So, what do you guys think is the probability that the seats on the 777 (in J) will see a slight variation?
If you had 1 thing you could change about the seats, what would it be?
Lets try to give reasonable suggestions that would only involve 1 or two items and/or not require a complete redesign/overhaul.
For me, it's the location of the tray table. At least if it could be stowed away completely under the TV instead of popping out, it would go a long way.
Other thing I may like would be a small stowage thing on the side of the pod, similar to where you put the menu by your feet.
Say you are on the A side, near the window, on the panel that is to the back of the TV from your neighbour behind you. Something that would fit a passport, wallet, customs card, cellphone/small tablet.
