Bout 2-2.5c per mile there. Beats some rates.

Seen similar things with crazy hotel prices and car hire before.

Not sure you got it... Look hard at the prices in $... Compare the prices on the left to the prices on the right

Oh I get it, booking hotels after you bought the flight means you pay many more $, just as I’ve posted before.

However the additional $200 gives you 8,000 points. Which is a better rate than buying them from AP direct.

Are you claiming that those 8,000 points are worth enough to cover the price differences of CAD$368 versus CAD$167 or CAD$194 versus CAD$108 for about 4,000 points?

I’m saying it’s a cheaper method than some, like $0.04 plus tax from AP direct or points from flying Tango. I didn’t say it was worth it.

If I had 102,000 points and wanted 8,000 it might be worth $200 mind. If the alternative was paying AP $360 or not flying J

It looks like American Express has taken over their pricing/benefits strategy, lol. I love the $70 statement credit, for paying $100 more than hotels.com, as an added bonus, you lose the credit towards a free night. Great deal.

You should tweet this to AC. See what the response is, it is like a mistake fare in reverse, but I am guessing they will honor that mistake 100% of the time.

It could certainly be worth it for someone who's deducting their travel as a business expense and faces a 30%-40% marginal tax rate.

Or obviously someone who submits their travel expenses to a client or employer (booking everything via the airline would probably raise fewer red flags than using a site such as Rocketmiles).

It would certainly be worth it for an employee who gets the employer to reimburse his expenses (while using the points privately).

If one of my employees pulled this one, they'd only get to do it once.

Even if it is AC's intent is to charge a premium for the room because they believe the majority of travellers will pay more to receive the extra miles (and I don't actually believe this was their intent), they might consider changing the ad to show only their price, the miles earned, and leave out the direct side-by-side comparison proudly showing their price to be higher. I would argue these advertised "deals" are best classed as a fail rather than intentional on the part of AC.
