YVR to YYZ... via YYJ?

I'm trying to figure out how on earth this is even possible. Starting a trip by flying in the opposite direction, to a smaller airport? Doesn't Air Canada have rules against nonsensical connections?

Of course, given that it seems to be allowed, it earns me an extra 500 miles (for a 12 minute flight!) and there was upgrade space on YYJ-YYZ, I wasn't going to say no...

I have done YOW - YUL - YWG before. Granted YUL is a bigger airport, but I can never understand how I can get a cheaper flight by flying the wrong way 30 minutes first!

Heading in the wrong direction to a larger airport makes sense to me -- larger airports have more passengers flowing through them, so airlines can use larger planes, which are cheaper on a per-seat basis. This is why the "hub and spokes" model works, after all.

I like flight passes as I can choose almost any routing! Usually direct.

SFO-YVR-YUL-YOW-YYZ is a valid, bookable routing.

Just look up the fare rules

YVR-YUL-YOW is a regular routing that I have done two or three times. YVR-YYJ-YYZ is unusual.

In many years of flying in and out of YYJ, I have only encountered one person who has connected here. He was doing SFO-YVR and all the direct flights were full, so flew to YYJ instead, with a long layover before continuing on to YVR. Given a choice between killing time in Victoria's MLL (there isn't one) or the ferry, he grabbed a cab to the ferry.

Doubtful. Published routings:
1. YVR-YYC-YEA-YXE-YQR-YWG-YQT-YTO
2. YVR-YEA-YYC-YXE-YQR-YWG-YQT-YTO
3. YVR-YYC-YEA-YQR-YXE-YWG-YQT-YTO
4. YVR-YEA-YYC-YQR-YXE-YWG-YQT-YTO

I've often back tracked - the best way is through YQR.

I.e. LAX-YYZ-YQR; SFO-YYZ-YQR; PHX-YYZ-YQR, etc... Saskatchewan has some of the worst people I've ever met - absolutely evil - and possibly the most corrupt legal system in the hemisphere but the mileage runs are fantastic.

Flying YYJ to YYZ has an added benefit, there's usually tons of upgrade space.

Sounds like an Aeroplan offering for SFO-YYZ.

I've just moved here and upgraded 100%, but it's only an upgrade to domestic J. Depending on when you fly, YVR-YYZ can get you a pod .

No. You can't connect in the US for a domestic flight.

But to the more general question: You can check valid routings on ExpertFlyer, KVS, etc.

Indeed, J cabin was half empty, and the passenger seated next to me reported that his LMU was a mere $349, much cheaper than the norm for YVR-YYZ.
