Aeroplan Convert to RBC Avion Points

Hi
Does anyone have any good strategies on how to convert from Aeroplan to RBC Avion Points. I am fed up with lack of seats on Air Canada so am jumping ship.

Someone had posted that we can go from Aeroplan to Esso to Avion when there is a transfer bonus on but wondering if anyone has any more recent strategies.

Thanks much
Tessie

Even there is a way to do it, you will probably loose half of the value of your miles. So you may just spend your miles and be done with it.

Here is the thread that talk about AP to AA via Avion points. Not sure if the ratio is still 10:9

pretty sure it's not 0.9 more like 0.65-0.7 without rbc -> aa promo.

It works as described. There's no point in waiting to start the conversion to RBC points. The bonuses refer to the semi-regular promotions for converting from RBC points to BA or AA miles. If you wait for one of these to appear, your Aeroplan to BA/AA conversion ratio will be somewhere around 1:1 (slightly more for BA, slightly less for AA, depending of course on the promotion).

Those promos (RBC-AA) typically happen in October so I'm waiting for that to convert my RBC miles this year

It would be 0.69 to RBC Avion points and then with the RBC-AA promo (usually 20%) 0.83 AA points.

Better with RBC- BA promo (50%) comes to 1.04.

Not bad if you really want to fly One world, so depends on your route.
Aeroplan points are still very good if you want to fly Star alliance airlines where they dont charge any fuel surcharges though.

And for some routes BA points are worth way more than AA points, even when flying on AA. A few months ago I booked two YYZ-LGA round trips in AA business class for 36k Avios, while it would have been 100k AA points.

Oh Ya....for short haul direct flights, BA is the Best...
Another good one is West Coast (BLI/SEA) to Hawaii on Alaska.....^

the thing is ba is so easy to collect with the rbc co-branded and/or amex mr.
aa is much harder as only avion can transferto them which means it's 1:0.83 ONLY if there is a promo. hasn't been one yet and they usually have them in oct/nov...

but the real gem is being able to create a pooled esso account where people can transfer in from AP, but then the pooled miles can be used by any pool members to transfer to the appropriate RBC card to get into the best AA or BA or CX account depending on what you are looking for..

The craziest thing is that the RBC BA card actually gives you fewer Avios points than you get by using the RBC Visa Infinite and converting to Avios... why they have it set up like this I have no clue.

One thing the OP and everyone should be aware of is that Esso recently has enforced the terms of their program. Namely, that one has to earn 250 Esso Extra base points through the card before transferring to RBC. Basically, this meant filling up $250 in gas. Bonus points (for buying premium gas) and the current 2x promotion at Esso does NOT count towards those 250 points.

And at Canadian petrol prices...
(aka this amount might cover 6-7 weeks at most.)
