I just heard ...... fuel surcharges are coming on other carriers!

I just heard today that a redemtion on LH after today or a change to an existing booking would cause a fuel surcharge to be added. Say it isn't so. LH was such a bargin.

Cheers,

Well, this is not really surprising as a lot of us on FT have been preaching to book non-AC to avoid fuel surcharge.

Similarly, F & C redemption on AP have been significantly increased since a lot of us have been preaching here about what a bargain these redemptions were.

Sounds like LH has heard us loud and clear.

Edit: originally posted an old BusinessTravelNews article.

Below is what LH has on their website on current fuel surcharges:

What is the fuel surcharge amount for my flight?
The following fuel surcharge applies per route segment for tickets issued from 18 March 2011 onwards. Please note that for certain fares the fuel surcharge may vary from the amounts stated here. Lufthansa also monitors the price of oil continuously and will make an adjustment based on the future development of fuel prices.:
28 euros for domestic German destinations
28 euros for intra-European destinations
97 euros for long-haul destinations in the Middle East and East Africa
102 euros for long-haul destinations in North America and India
112 euros for long-haul destinations in South America, Central, West and Southern Africa, South-East Asia and the Far East

The point here is not whether LH has surcharges, is whether AE will start charging them for award tickets.

Right now one only pays a $700 fee on a TATL award on AC ..... hope that doesnt change.

I don't think that $700 is an "only" and I'd like to see it change -- down! Remember when Rupert used to boast of the free Aeroplan Award tickets?

Wouldn't it be nice if all posts that started off "I just heard..." were automatically deleted once the author submitted them?

OP, please provide a source. That's a pretty basic rule around here.

It's simple, if LH increases their fuel surcharge AE will start charging them on award tickets.

I don't see any evidence to support this statement yet. Can you provide some?

+1

Until substantiated it's just a rumour.

You don't need any evidence, it's a basic principle. If LH increase fuel surcharge, you can be assured AE will increase it.

Admittedly fuel prices are a little high at the moment, but it will be interesting to see if surcharges drop or get eliminated when the current spike ends:

Source

I made a change to a booking yesterday and was told by the AE agent that I had beat the deadline for implementation of the LH fuel charges by one day.

(Do I really need to sign the affidavit? )
